Derby County make £4m bid to bring Matty James in from East Midlands rivals Leicester City

  • Derby manager Gary Rowett wants to add a central midfielder to his squad
  • Derby sold England Under 21 star Will Hughes to Watford earlier this summer
  • Rowett is also interested in former Rams midfielder Tom Huddlestone

Can actually see this happening but I hope not. I honestly believe he's good enough to contribute to our season.

Fine to let him go, but I'd want more than £4m

how much? why? he was great before he got injured, full pre-season he could well be again.

Derby love our players/ex-players. Proper living in our shadow.

4m is nothing these days. Might as well keep him, probably better than King.

I can see why they want a good replacement for Hughes, and James would be just the job. However, I'd of thought he's in Shakespeare's plans.

He's a million miles from our first team, take the money and give Barnes a chance!

Would make no sense as different positions!

only slightly, got enough cover with Almerty and Iborra in holding midfield, Barnes can come on for Drinky now and again

I think you might be surprised next season. If he's fit he'll be ahead of King and could easily give Drinkwater a run for his money. Barnes has done nothing whatsoever to suggest he's even close to our starting 11 yet. He played ok in league one. James has performed in the championship last season alone and got rave reviews.

Iborra isn't a holding midfielder ffs

He's played all over the shop, but that's definitely where he's played the most and where he played against us.

You can play him deep wiith a holding midfielder next to him, but he gets forward regularly and plays as a 10 also.
