Brighton Post Match 2-0

A decent win but Brighton didn't offer anything meaningful and there will be much sterner tests to come! Harry Maguire had a great game and looks like he will have a great season. while Mahrez was outstanding and hopefully will keep the performances going for the rest of the season.

2 weeks on the trot that we've headed in from a corner and yet it seems like we've hardly ever done that in the last few years.

Was it while Sven was here we went near enough a calender year without scoring from a corner. Remember stringer doing a "x many days since we scored from a corner" before every match for a while.

At least they've got screens that show the game in the concourse now

 yeah great 400 quid to watch it on a big screen in the concourse, wonderful, does anyone go to football now to actually watch the football?

My mates ****ed off 10 mins before half time and then ordered another pint as the players came back out, must have missed about 30 mins of the game in total to watch the bloody thing on a massive tv screen, tempted to ask the club to revoke their season tickets lol

oh and Brighton are rubbish no attacking threat what so ever, deffo going down on that evidence.

I go down a few minutes early so I can get my partner and her mum a drink at half time.

Always confuses the **** out of me if I go for a piss during the first half and there's loads of blokes just getting shit faced in the concourse.

Home and away, always people there. Weird.

That astonishes me. And I believe you too.

Seriously. Go down in to the concourse on like twenty odd minutes.

Always like a small group of blokes just getting wasted.

Beer is expensive and crap and you're missing the game. Don't get it.

My guess is they're already wasted from pre-match. Some blokes do love a bit of territory though...

Aren't you a gentleman

I just don't get those that must spend 1000's to get to games and then waste 100's more on shit beer and not see hardly any of the game other than on a TV, stay home, the beers cheaper, better and the sofa probably a little more relaxing.

It does make you wonder why they bother going. May as well just be in the pub

Just trying to do the right thing. I agree with you though but for some it's the day out I guess.

I can't get over the amount of people who can't sit in their seats for 45 ****ing minutes. It does my head in standing up 5-10 times a half to let people back into their seats and I'm on a relatively small row. The ground looked so empty from 40 mins on Saturday. People miss so much of the game I don't know why they bother.

Nor do i. It's ridiculous. If you are gonna do this, you might as well just watch it in a pub that's streaming the game. Or at home with Special Brew or '8 ace'.

lol

Wouldn't be this problem if you could drink in view of the pitch. (Probably)

I sincerely hope your faith in James turns out to be justified. Personally I see him as a potential weak link in the team because of his lack of mobility and creativity, but I'll be delighted to be proved wrong. I have no axe to grind with any player, I just want what's best for the team, and I don't see James as the answer in central midfield.

I have no idea if James will be good, great, shit or indifferent. I just think it was massively harsh to call him a negative in a game we didn't even have to get out of second gear. Time will tell one way or another.

Right from the off I thought Maguire would make a massive difference for us from attacking set pieces bu we're already in danger of seeing so much good in the bloke we ignore the faults that need rapidly ironing out and make him vulnerable as well as classy.

a) He often takes too much time on the ball moving out of defence and once or twice every game he gets ambushed and leaves us in danger of conceding a goal because, once caught, there's no way he'll recover to catch anyone with a bit of pace. He has the class to play the ball quicker and I wish he would because it would eliminate the weakness and give receiving players that little bit more time.

b)  Connected with that is his adventure leaving us vulnerable because on the counter because we've so little cover in a two-man midfield and James is not quick in any case.

Brighton didn't ask many questions at all and looked remarkably green but Arsenal scored four times and had an abundance of shots and it will doubtless be the same at Old Trafford unless we're very clever indeed.

Either way there's no way we can leave ourselves exposed to either the pace of United's players or passing with a shortage of numbers. Morgan and Maguire will need to be fully focused and strategically connected and we'll need all the pace, energy and numbers we can muster in central midfield along with the resolve to be ruthless on the counter or from set plays.

It's not impossible. We've given some great displays against top teams in both The Prtemiership and Champions League. But we can't afford indiscipline of any kind, or much getting caught in possession.

Maguire is a wonderful prospect, no question, but he's more to learn before he's a master craftsman in the job and I'm sure he'll  know that whatever the praise he gets.
