They looked so out of their depth. We barely got out of second gear and they were toothless up front. They got Watford and West Brom next. Wouldn't be surprised if they still got 0 points by match day 5.

You talk sh1te !!! Sounds like I'd agree with him somewhat, except playing with more flair increases your chances of winning. We were clearly far better than Brighton and were never in danger of dropping points today. It would have been nice for us to try and entertain a bit. The first 20 minutes were good, after that it was a total non-event. If we'd have tried to score a few more we would have. At 2-0 some teams might get a dodgy penalty or a deflection and then we look silly trying to hang on. It's not an advisable way of closing a game out. Besides, there's no glory finishing mid table whilst boring the fans to death.

MPH Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 Don't think I have ever thought I team was likely to go down so early in the season but if you can't be up for it two games into the season then it doesn't look good for you..
Corky Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 Comfortable afternoon, should have pressed more for a third (and would probably have got it if Mahrez had been allowed to continue on his run) but no issues really, Schmeichel had the quietest game for an age whilst Mahrez was superb, especially early on. Given our early run of games, we marked this down as must win and it was a clinical performance rather than spectacular but we're off the mark, a clean sheet too.
Foxxed Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 Five goals so far this season. Three set up by Mahrez. If he leaves this transfer window we're boned.
Daggers Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 Gray not starting against the worst side we'll face this season. One day I'll understand what goes through Creg's mind, today isn't it. But yeh, whoop whoop, three points and everything is wonderful. The soylent tastes ace.

We kept a clean sheet. Or are people just slagging him off because we have a new £17m centre back who happens to potentially be very good. 2 centre backs are needed for our team you know. And if Huth comes in you will be slagging him off in no time too. It's a bit ironic given all the praise he got but had Morgan made the kind of mistakes Maguire made on occasions today he'd have been slated for them. Our new centre-back might have scored a goal on his Premiership home debut and thrilled us with a few clever runs, passes and touches but he very nearly gave an unnecessary goal away with a lack of concentration. Morgan did a lot of our defending today while Maguire enjoyed the kind of freedom he'll certainly not get every week and the clear sheet speaks volumes for the entire defensive department who limited what was a seriously ordinary Brighton side to little more than crumbs. Mahrez was our virtuouso man of the match by some distance for all that he was effectively "waved through" to make Shinji's opening goal after 52 seconds as if he'd told the full-back he'd left his boots in the goalmouth and needed to get them quick before Shakespeare noticed, prompting their full-back to just step aside. Shinji looked to have evolved a new style for 20 minutes or so, performing like a Far Eastern-featured Gerd Muller in trying to sniff out chances within two or three yards of the goalline. And he might have had a hat-trick. I had no problem with Shakespeare being reluctant to make much in the way of substitutions. The team was doing its job - as seemed to be at Arsenal the previous week - and there was no need to even think of mending what wasn't broke and risking another calamity. Gray will doubtless get his chance, or his next chance I should say, when the opportunity arises. It was a solid if unexpansive performance today and as Shakespeare said himself, it was good and right to put some points on the board. .
BenTheFox Posted 19 August 2017 Posted 19 August 2017 A lot of people are comparing Brighton to Boro. Middlesbrough were miles better than Birghton in my opinion and that really is saying something. As for us, I'm just happy to win. It was an important win given the fixtures we've got coming up. Maguire MOTM, Mahrez was also outstanding. Shout out to Okazaki too. Gets a lot of stick but really played well. My only real criticism is that it wouldn't have killed us to make subs a bit earlier.
Harry96 Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 Not the best performance but didn't have to be that good against an awful Brighton side devoid of any creative spark they really need a decent striker. Good to see Mahrez back to his best mesmerising to watch at times hopefully he can keep it up and he will get his move in January I reckon if and when someone will be desperate and will pay 45-50m Chelsea imo. As for maguire he will be a shoe in for the World Cup squad if he keeps this up absolute class act.

Vardinio'sCat Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 Gotta love a 'boring' win, we certainly could have used a few of those last season. Remember when Shakey took over and it soon turned out our squad wasn't past it/rubbish/not trying/too greedy. It felt a bit like that today. It still baffles me how keen some folks are, to disrespect the finest bunch of players this club has ever seen. But then everyone has a right to an opinion, even if it is ill-informed BS.
Babylon Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 People actually blaming our team for making it boring. How about you look at the other team who had almost no intention of trying to make a game of it.
UPinCarolina Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 3 points is 3 points is 3 points (ad infinitum)

Crinklyfox Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 A comfortable win but was helped immensely by the early goal. This was a Brighton side that kept Man City out for the first 45 minutes last week, they have bought loads of players over the summer and have yet to adjust to life in the PL. I expect them to improve as the season goes on. They probably came for a 0-0 and when that went out of the window in the first minute didn't have enough firepower for a plan B. We'll have tougher matches this season but I've no complaints about the performance, we did what we needed to do.
Chico1958 Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 By the time we get to the Bournemouth game we'll know exactly where we are in the real world I did expect more from Brighton but you can only beat the team that's in front of you 3 points on the board, unlucky against Arsenal I just hope we can give Man U a game next week But all good so far
foxfanazer Posted 20 August 2017 Posted 20 August 2017 Won't live long in the memory that game but we all know the importance of of getting points on the board. We've made the KP in to a bit of a fortress in the prem. No team will relish coming here that's for sure. Mahrez was magical and it was nice to see him with a smile on his face. Give us one more season Riyad, let us put a plan in place to replace you and then you'll leave with all of our blessings Hoping the Vardy injury isn't as bad as it looked. The single most important player in our squad and with United coming up and no Iheanacho it's vital Vardy plays
