Jimmy Posted 17 October 2017 Posted 17 October 2017 Vardy leaving would finally force a change in style, as sad as it would be it might actually benefit us long term

Charl91 Posted 19 October 2017 Posted 19 October 2017 On a slightly different note, is it me or is Vardy a fair bit slower this year?
Foxxed Posted 19 October 2017 Posted 19 October 2017 There's always the illustrious Belgium second division trophy up for grabs.

Pegging him as a dog chasing a stick is disrespectful to Vardy in my opinion

I remember seeing this question asked last season when we were playing equally negative football, then as soon as we started pressing high up the pitch again he looked just as fast as in the title winning season.

Granted, he is the best that we have in that role but I think he is good enough to play in a number of styles. We don't have to play the way we do because of JV. It's Mahrez that holds us back. He can only play on the wing in a 442. If he leaves then we can be much more flexible in our set up. The trouble is the big teams that can afford him realise this and as they don't play 442, so they have left him alone.

STUHILL Posted 19 October 2017 Posted 19 October 2017 I would push for a big move in January if I was him. We simply aren't matching his ambitions and his stock is still high enough to get a move to a bigger club here or abroad. Of course I would like him to stay but I wouldn't begrudge him a move, and I certainly think we would be in OK shape with Slimani and hopefully a much more confident and improved Iheanacho. The way we are going, we are a long way of winning trophies and he probably has only 2-3 years at the highest level, i.e top 6 team.

We haven't exactly used him properly for some time since our tempo is so painfully slow. We haven't played 'the style' you are talking about since Kante left, apart from a few very successful matches (I'm thinking about 4-2 against Man CIty, 2-0 against Sevilla, 3-1 against Liverpool, the unfortunate 4-3 loss to Arsenal this season). Therefore I'd argue we've already changed style to a slow tempo one and, let's be honest, it's not working.

Mahrez plays in different formations for Algeria and with his skillset I wouldn't be surprised if he played well as a right forward in a 343. That formation would give him less defensive duties.
Wymsey Posted 19 October 2017 Posted 19 October 2017 There's the worry in that when will he start to lose his pace, which has aided him immensely for the goals he has scored? I thought Iheanacho, although hasn't scored yet and am confident that he'll be like Vardy, would be one who would perform effectively straightaway but early reports appear that he's quite some way off re-discovering his goalscoring form from Manchester City. I don't think there'll be/It'll probably be rare to see another type like Vardy with the potential he has reached, especially someone English/British, and like others still don't understand why Ulloa has received another couple/few year's contract at his age and is well behind the pecking order.

A lot of people in our successful years were saying how we pressed as a team and our positive energy started from the fornt (Vardy). It's now the opposite. Vardy now has nothing to do with our style of play - because we don't have one. Our negative 'style' of play comes from the fact 50% of our back 4 (Simpson and Morgan) know one way of passing - straight lofted balls. We would see a huge difference in possession and the way we used the ball if we played Amartey at rb and Dragovic/anyone who can keep the ball on the floor at cb.
NotTheMarketLeader Posted 20 October 2017 Posted 20 October 2017 I was with you until you wrote playing Amartey

Massive gulf in class between PL and African football.
Lovejoy Posted 20 October 2017 Posted 20 October 2017 Vardy is 31 in January. Genuinely can't see who'd pay good dollar and his £100k+ p/w wages.
