Britpop was a bit shit in hindsight.

Like most things, nostalgia overrates/ distorts it. However, do you see this decade being pined for in 30 years?

I hope not, but given the possible trajectory of things, who knows?

Interesting for sure. I sometimes look back to the summer and World Cup of 2006 as the best point in the history of the world. But it was probably because we figured out how to get alcohol and girls to talk to us

2004-2008 wasn't bad, but I think 1997-2000 was about the peak tbh.

It probably will be by those who are young right now.

I don't TBH. There's nothing much that distinguishes most of the current bands/music with a few exceptions.

I used to think glam rock would go on forever. Looking back, it was fun but mostly rubbish.

The 60's "Britpop" and late 70's punk was probably the most innovative and memorable.

Quite surprised you think the music you probably grew up with was the most innovative and memorable, a real shock!

I can imagine Swifties pining for it.

Personally I never thought the 90’s had much worth pining for in terms of popular culture and I grew up in it.

Two tone/Ska was an amazing part of my youff..and the soundtrack to the late 70s- early 80s... was a great redefinning of music

You clearly didn't experience it to the full

I think a lot of the nostalgia for the 90s is about the economy and society more than the pop culture. Obviously thatcherism had already started but it hadn't effected the country as much as now and for a brief period it seemed like we might be getting an alternative

And all we really got was a greater divide between the have's and the have nots, greed and selfishness and a faster descent into poverty for so many.

Fair.

I’ve always thought the 60’s would’ve been a great decade to grow up in terms of popular culture. So identifiable, with the young years of modern music and hope for the future.

I agree. I grew up with the music my parents listened to which was mainly late 50's early 60's because that's all the radio station played but after pirate radio became accessible the whole music listening scene changed. No more James Last and "easy listening" or Cliff Richard on replay. I could lie in bed with my radio under my pillow listening to The Troggs, Manfred Mann, The Rolling Stones, and others that seemed so "hip" and cutting edge. In truth they probably weren't but it was all stuff my teen generation had been denied by the straitlaced BBC. I believe that pirate radio and it's coincidental rise with the "new" music changed music radio and was revolutionary.

Personally I think New Labour improved things to some extent but didn't roll back Thatcherism enough leading to us being totally screwed by the crash in 2008.

I agree and I was thinking of a way to include this view in my post. Thanks for your help

Aldi's imitation of Moretti 'Mapelli' is much much nicer than Moretti.

I found it very, very similar. Certainly not enough difference to buy the expensive one.

Fish and chips are rubbish… flaccid, floppy, soggy, greasy chips.

I love a chippy tea every now and again but you can't beat homemade chips in a pan full of fat, which I still do to this day.

I’m very particular about my chips, I like a chunky chip, that’s crispy and has good structural integrity… the type of chip that can withstand a proper dunk in a condiment. I tend to make my own but use the air fryer, drop of oil, some salt and 15 minutes at 200, lovely job!

Love a chippy tea, I’ve just never been sold on chip shop chips…..

Frydales is the best one in Leicester, personally.

Followed by Grimsby Fisheries.

I remember when Grimsby Fisheries got done for tax evasion moons ago now.  What was it.. early 90s I think? After I read about it in the mercury I went in and ordered  and when I got my food, with my best Russ Abbott voice/ face I pointed at him and said “ make sure you write that down!”

I thought it would be funny but he was not impressed.
