Terrible thing but the number of murders has been falling almost year on year for the past 20 years in the UK.

Now less than 10 people in a million are murdered a year in the UK,

If Leicestershire had the same murder rate as El Salvador the county would have 10 murders a day !

( Aren't I a cheerful soul )

I'd take it if we could have the same weather.

Murder inquiry launched in Fleckney

Issued on 25/9/17 at 4:15 p.m.

Police have launched a murder inquiry in Fleckney, near Market Harborough.

It follows the discovery yesterday morning (Sunday 24 September) of the body of an elderly woman at a bungalow in Elizabeth Road.

A post mortem carried out on the woman’s body last night proved inconclusive and although the results of further medical tests are awaited, the circumstances of the scene have led police to treat her death, at this stage, as a murder inquiry.

Detective Chief Inspector David Swift-Rollinson, who is leading the inquiry, said he believed the woman died at some point during Saturday evening or in the early hours of yesterday morning.

He said: “At this stage the woman’s death is unexplained; but there are signs of a disturbance in her bungalow which may be linked to her death.

“Elizabeth Road is a quiet cul-de-sac and house to house enquiries are being conducted with the woman’s neighbours to see if they saw or heard anything.

“And among many other active lines of enquiry, we are conducting a forensic search of her bungalow today.

“I need to hear from anyone who may have been in or near Elizabeth Road on Saturday night or Sunday morning and who may have seen or heard something they thought was suspicious and out of character. It may have been a stranger they didn’t recognise or someone they knew but who appeared to be acting strangely; it may have been a car that is not normally parked in the area, or a vehicle seen leaving the area at speed.

“Elizabeth Road is located near to an industrial estate on Saddington Road and we know that lorry drivers visiting the estate often park up overnight. We are keen to speak to anyone who may have parked up in this particular area and saw anything suspicious.

“It’s also likely that the person who committed this offence may well be highly agitated and behaving out of character. Do you know someone who might have come home overnight on Saturday / Sunday acting unusually or extremely anxious for no apparent known reason? If you have suspicions they may be linked to this incident, please contact us.

“We are in the process of trying to contact the woman’s next of kin. Until that has been done I am unable to name her publicly, but I believe she was a woman in her 70s.”

Anyone with any information that may assist the Police is asked to ring 101 quoting incident 233 of 24 September. Anyone with information who would rather not speak directly to the police can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. They will not be asked to give their personal details.

Where it happened is not the issue. its increasingly happening anywhere anytime. Anyone who murders a defenseless elderly person should never experience freedom again. Scum. Imagine if it was your Mum or Gran, How would you feel?

That's quite a claim do you have any statistics for that?

Dreadful things  happen in the quietest places sometimes - which is why it hits the headlines.

A few years ago there was a shoot-out between rival drug dealers in Shepton Mallet - people actually started to lock their doors at night after that one.

If this happened in Bristol or Nottingham it would barely merit a couple of lines in the press.

What a sad reflection on our society that is.

I come c from v New Parks...years ago we were hard rough and ready, we had our burgularies, robbing, dope selling,

Drunken rowdienes, we had class we always did it  on other peoples patch..

In the 60s n 70s, On Thurs, and Wend nights the girls and elderly were all looked after, even girls we didnt Chase,we kept our eye out that they came to no harm, no territory Ownership  fights. Even the contra cliques in towns and villages, saw the elderly covered.

Plus the girls in mixed groups often  payed, their share of the round, they earnt more, sometimes , to keep the night going would occasionally pay to get their male friends into clubs and discos. Leicester was then known like Leeds as a womans town, due to "piece work"

Even across cliques and friends the girls, would offer to pay...obviously the lads would more than return the compliment at another time.

We looked out for our elderly, 2 day no shows!!  on the estates, doors were knocked.

In bad weather, Scraptoft, Braunstone, New Parks lads n lasses who may have had their weekend clashes, would go with, or go for..the pensioner  shopping. 7yr old kids and teenagers alike..

The same kids  who kicked ball against old peoples bungalows walls, just to annoy,

would the next minute, clear the snow, do the shopping, help to the bus, that  same pensioner.

Many years ago I was shocked When I read a Local lad had raped a local girl......

We have changed, and the access to drugs and over excess Of alcohol has affected our society....God we were big drinkers even then, but we seem v to have lost that respect for it.

Plus those abbos, seem now to have the top hand, where before they were always kept in check...by the good but equally rough N ready.Simply because Again the authorities and local

Police have lost the streets...and cross then let down the good uns.

When you read what happens, it’s hard to believe how these things happen.

There are murders, and there are murders. This is the sort of guy that never should be let out. If your mind works in those ways, not sure you can ever be repaired.

Its different of course, but a bit like the Pitchfork ones, as in you just can’t ever imagine anyone’s brain working in this way.

I just don’t think these people should ever be allowed out.

If I'm right that's grand father and grand son both had up for murder. Also the one in the middle used to carry a blade.

But the great grandfather was one of the nicest men you could ever have met.

More to the point should he even be allowed to breath.
