And THIS is why fans of clubs outside the big 6 get annoyed with the England Squad selections...

I don't get the problem.  If a Leicester player is suspended, they still have to train and attend the game, so why any different for England.

Alli is an automatic starter for the national team so it's worth getting him to train with the squad, especially as England get few opportunities to train together.

but not named in a squad...

Alli is literally taking up a spot pointlessly. Southgate and other selectors involved have basically wasted a spot for someone who could have been given a chance?

I get the 'team bonding' argument but why can he not be named in the squad but if Southgate really wants him around, just give him some kind of special permission or dispensation to be in and around the squad for the week they're together?

We'll always have this problem because of the FA hiring typical yes men.

Managers with a bollox who'd go against all this don't get the job (way back to Cloughie not getting it).

Turns out Vardy's injured. Still, what business Oxlade-Chamberlain or Lingard have there I've no idea.

Is Alli actually suspended for these two games? If he is then what a joke that he's in the squad.

I think ( just a guess) that Southgate is wanting him to take part in the training sessions.... but what if he gets injured? If he is  officially picked in the England squad, he is covered by Englands insurance... If he is not officially in a squad but still takes part in the training sessions, then he wont be covered in case of accident/ injury...

Ah, my only thought was it could be an insurance thing. Fair enough, it's not like there's an abundance of great talent missing out.

Why play young english players when you can have an average foreign player in there.

It would probably be a different story if  this was 2 years ago or something and he had more games and friendlies and training sessions to prepare for the world cup....

He'd be using the euro's as an excuse if it was 2 years ago, but I get your point haha.

The more I think about it the less I care. If there was a genuinely exciting player not getting picked I'd be upset, but I can't think of one.

There's a lot of people that pretend they don't care about England but watch every game and get frustrated anyway, I do care but I'm becoming more and more apathetic because Southgate's shit.

I thought that hadn't been decided yet, hence the reason for taking a chance to include him in the squad.

Honestly couldn't give a shite.

The FA is a closed shop that should have been brought into the 20th century in a transparent way.

I frankly do not care about them, Southgate or the England team. I'd rather do away with the international breaks.

I still watch the games but I honestly can't remember the last one I enjoyed. I don't feel anything at all when England score now. I just cannot stand the set up.

Isn't Vardy in the squad?

Just heard Vardy's not been included because of injury....but will highly likely play for us at the weekend.

Meh, whatever, wouldn't have played even if he was 100% fit.

He's done them/The FA a favour no doubt.

Not really too fussed, I'm done with England, it's an inconvience and annoying that it spoils the domestic schedule.

I'm someone who will watch most football matches, I simply cannot watch England anymore, I've tried, I can't, it bores me, frustrates me, it's just shit.

Vardy's probably thought "Fuck it, I won't play anyway certainly won't start may aswell have a rest."

Maguire won't get a sniff either.

There seems to be an increasingly amount of people who think like that, total apathy towards the team and some like yourself almost willing them to fail.

Is this an English thing?, or are their people in other countries who don't care about their national team either?

There's plenty of other countries who fail every year, plenty of bias and nationalistic newspapers in other countries, plenty of overpaid overhyped players in other countries....or is there other reasons behind the apathy?

Normally I want England to succeed more than most on here it seems but against Malta we were so poor and Malta played quite well, maybe losing to a minnow like that would mean we'd stop papering over the cracks? Probably not but there's issues with the current set up and they're hard to enjoy supporting.

I don't think it's exclusively an English thing although I do think we've probably got more reason to be like that.

I just don't know how people get excited for England. I honestly can't grasp it. Maybe I'm just a miserable bastard by nature but I'd feel like it's akin to getting back with the girlfriend who cheats on you with a progressively more repulsive cvnt on each occasion.

When England lost to Iceland I thought that this has to be the one, surely, that kicks our arses into gear.

Yet what's changed since? The same drab football, the same closed shop and bias, the same lack of quality.

I've given up. I just can't bring myself to care for or support it. When you see a team like Iceland, a team that more and more as the game went on reminded me of that 2016 Leicester side, up against England with the spine of bottlers Spurs players, a past-it forward played in midfield and the most inept managerial performance I have ever seen at a tournament, I just couldn't muster any support for England.

That night against Croatia in 2007 and that Iceland game stand out as the two lowest points and yet I've seen absolutely nothing fundamentally change. With the structure of English football, I'm not sure there is even a proper desire for it to.

I'll watch the World Cup religiously, I always do, but I honestly am not that bothered about England anymore.

Years ago I used to book time off work if I needed to, for the Euros and the WC. Now I barely even know when we're playing. I used to look forward to the break and the chance to watch England. Now it's just an inconvenient gap that gets in the way of any momentum we might have.
