lgfualol Posted 29 September 2017 Posted 29 September 2017 Only watched maybe one game since the Euros. Southgate bringing 4 goalkeepers and 6 CBs against these two minnows shows how clueless he is. Not going to waste my time watching.

From a personal point of view, my apathetic attitude has developed over the last decade or so, why ??? Because, over that time, my negativity has increased, hand in hand, with the 'can't really be arsed' attitude of the vast majority of the players selected! Love or hate Beckham, when he retired, the patriotism within the team seemingly left in his kitbag ! I'm getting there too which is odd as can't remember ever being uninterested about England. Like others have said hoped after Iceland we would have to solve all the underlying problems, then we get Southgate as a manager. Redknapp probably said it best when asked about Southgate ''knowing the system'' and replied along the lines of ''what system? the losing system?'' Taking Alli when he can't play says it all really. What if he gets injured before the world cup and someone that could step up has missed a chance for a cap. How has Delph been called up? What manager would ever say some players don't deserve to have been called up.... Why not give Albrighton a call up to the squad, at least he would battle. Surely that would create competition by showing you don't have to be at a top 6 side for a call up.

The FA is a closed shop that should have been brought into the 20th century in a transparent way. I frankly do not care about them, Southgate or the England team. I'd rather do away with the international breaks. Yep this Delbert Ali fiasco is the latest pathetic excuse, I mean come on the horrible little Cnut should be suspended and rightly so which makes it a farce he has even been named in the squad Aside from that we should pick on form and as others have suggested it's the usual top 6 clubs getting players picked irrespective of their form Delph Oxlade overrated etc etc

I just don't know how people get excited for England. I honestly can't grasp it. Maybe I'm just a miserable bastard by nature but I'd feel like it's akin to getting back with the girlfriend who cheats on you with a progressively more repulsive cvnt on each occasion. When England lost to Iceland I thought that this has to be the one, surely, that kicks our arses into gear. Yet what's changed since? The same drab football, the same closed shop and bias, the same lack of quality. I've given up. I just can't bring myself to care for or support it. When you see a team like Iceland, a team that more and more as the game went on reminded me of that 2016 Leicester side, up against England with the spine of bottlers Spurs players, a past-it forward played in midfield and the most inept managerial performance I have ever seen at a tournament, I just couldn't muster any support for England. That night against Croatia in 2007 and that Iceland game stand out as the two lowest points and yet I've seen absolutely nothing fundamentally change. With the structure of English football, I'm not sure there is even a proper desire for it to. I'll watch the World Cup religiously, I always do, but I honestly am not that bothered about England anymore. Great post bud pretty much spot on and how many other feel

Think there's a fair amount of discontent/apathy about the German national team's fortunes at the moment, though that's more to do with ongoing battles between club supporters and the German FA on various issues than the team itself.
kingcarr21 Posted 29 September 2017 Posted 29 September 2017 Dele Alli given a 1 game ban Surely if he has been given a ban then they are confident he aimed his gesture at the ref? Is it an offence to swear at a team mate? If they truly believe he swore at the ref then a 1 game ban is pathetic. So much for the respect the ref campaign
Turbogre Posted 29 September 2017 Posted 29 September 2017 That was extremely inappropriate, I was deeply offended by the middle finger. Deserves a 3 match ban for that racist act.
Guest Posted 29 September 2017 Posted 29 September 2017 Was just looking at the league tables from '79 (when we won Div 2). The top 6 in division 1 were Liverpool, Manu, Ipswich, Arsenal, Forest and Wolves. Spurs were 14th, Man City 17th and Chelsea didn't even win promotion from Divison 2. So much for the big 6. Interesting to see that only 5 of the top 12 are still in the top division, and 11 of the 22. 6 of our present top division were in div 2 (Burnley were relegated to div 3 that season) Huddersfield and Bournemouth were both in the 4th division.

Tielemans63 Posted 2 October 2017 Posted 2 October 2017 Don't know why people think there's a bias towards the toward the top 6. Coincidentally Harry Winks has been called up.....after playing a whole 3 games this season.

Tuna Posted 3 October 2017 Posted 3 October 2017 Harry Winks It seems all you have to do these days to get a full England call up is fart whilst wearing a replica Spurs kit!
RonnieTodger Posted 3 October 2017 Posted 3 October 2017 The fact that Livermore is now a regular shows our lack of depth in central midfield. Would genuinely love to see a bastard like Warnock manage England. It'd be interesting at least.
Stadt Posted 3 October 2017 Posted 3 October 2017 Winks is a good player though, better than that block head Dier, Henderson and Livermore as he can actually pass positively.

He'd learn to toe the party line, be completely PC, pick spurs players and have Jo Hart in goal faster than you could say 'a load of old farts in blazers'

Lovejoy Posted 4 October 2017 Posted 4 October 2017 I like Winks, it's a shame for him he hasn't played more games for Spurs. Having gone to the England home game v Slovakia game recently I thought it was pathetic of Southgate to line up with Dier and Henderson anchoring the midfield. I just cannot get excited about that and don't understand why can't we try and give teams like that a battering? It feels like we're scared to be innovative and too worried by our possession stats, at the detriment of playing with intensity and flair.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 October 2017 Posted 4 October 2017 Won't the Winks call up be with an eye on the fact he's eligible to represent another country too? Granted, it's Spain and he'd have some serious grafting to do to get in there, but this ties him down. He's better than Jake ****ing Livermore.

Well pointed...I reckon the apathy comes from generations of English fans believing and expecting we are better than we actually are. Fans..... like Terry Venables once said, would approach matches with more enjoyment instead of frustration, if we accept our postion In world football has it really is.Millions of other fans would love to be in our position. We are not a top 5 nation, we Hover around 8th-12th, and slide occasionally to 3-4th in the non tournament periods. Our percpectives will change when we stop listening to our own and English press Hype. We have the occasional WC players, who tend to get or carry Injuries when it matters. What an arrogance to blame every year the organisations, for Englands lack of success, trying to bum up our quality Of player choice better than it is.Oh yes the FA are not organised now like The french , Germans, Spanish, in finding stability, they themselves learnt and looked at themselves. The Brits cant learn, We always think we are better than we actually are....The selling of Brexit and remain proves that...again and again. Just like our football...arrogance deprives open and honest reflection, and creates permanent blame factors.and platforms.
