Too many passengers in this time sadly. Cook out of nick, Malan not good enough, Woakes & Ball in Australia are not what we need at all, would have been far better taking someone like Plunkett who could bowl fast and short. Tone was set on day 1 when we allowed Lyon to bowl maiden after maiden. Should have got after him and knocked him off his line so he couldn't get settled. I can only see things getting more messy on actual proper quick pitches later in the series. 

 

Next test match will determine whether it is 5-0 or not. Lose that and it's inevitable.

You can't win in Australia with only two decent bowlers and without a decent spinner. Throw Crane and Overton in at Adelaide.

 

To cap it all off Bairstow apparantly nutted Bancroft in a nightclub.

I've heard this as well and it doesn't suprise me - not saying England are perfect (particularly after sledging Warner for his wife having sex with Sonny Bill Williams in a toilet) but the Aussies will literally use anything they've got to gain an advantage.

 

Pretty sad that they'd stoop to this level as it's way too far and considering the Phil Hughes inquest you'd think they'd have learnt their lessons.

Reasonable move. Means that if and when the CPS choose not to prosecute he can be in Aus in the minimum of time and with the minimum of jetlag to deal with before beginning training to get back into the fold ASAP.

Exactly this, great move to almost force the hand of the ECB as well, I'm 3 hours away, do you want me?

 

I'd dump him in the team this weekend, Stokes straight off a plan offers more batting and bowling that Ball does.

Stokes is a more talented cricketer than half the team and if the decision were solely based on ability he'd be in.  But I can't see it happening.

 

Each cricketer in the team is representing his country.  Millions have seen video of Ben Stokes hitting an individual who was not acting aggressively towards him.  No doubt that he was fired up by something but taking the video alone it's the actions of a thug.  Until that matter is resolved Ben Stokes shouldn't be anywhere near the England team.

You know, I think the ECB agreed this with him in an entirely deniable way: "look, pay for your ticket yourself, get over to NZ and you'll be there when we need you."

But they've said they're going to wait until the CPS makes a decision one way or the other and I think they're going to stick to that.

If it was responding to homophobic abuse and the other guy swung first (as some reports seem to suggest) then given my own personal feelings I would be getting him back into the team right away and not coming close to charging him - but it's not up to me and the response seemed to be pretty disproportionate, so I guess we have to wait for the CPS to stop dragging their feet and get on with it.

At the moment our batsman must be thinking "How many do we need in the fourth innings, 300?, 500?"

 

Our attack is old and military medium, needs a shake up, we need 90 mph reverse swing bowlers (like we had in 2005).
