Get a grip, that prat needs to get sent down.

Cant control himself after a few beers and is ginger to boot.

ECB need to sort themselves our rather than sucking uncle ruperts cock.......some coincidence he rocks up in NZ eh.

Why is it a coincidence? His parents live there, he was born there and it's the place to go to get some competitive cricket at the minute.

Uncle Rupert?

If some accounts are true he gave a homophobic bigot a piece of his mind...were it up to me he'd be in the side without any further ado. But it isn't, so let's see what happens.

Also (something I'm happy about) the ECB aren't getting Murdochs money anymore - will be interesting to see if that effects the landscape with Clarke et al.

Regardless of whether these 'accounts' are true the bloke committed ABH, what sort of example is it to set by bringing him into the team. Hope he goes down personally.

I guess we'll see.

In any case, the CPS are officially dragging their feet on this one so it looks like he's not going to be involved in the series anyway.

Might be how it goes down on the camp site but not in the real world.

Surely he's innocent until proven guilty? Our best player is currently missing the most important series of his life and it might be for nothing.

Still wondering what the Uncle Rupert stuff was about? Unfortunately the Ashes was purchased by BT Sport so we now have to watch substandard coverage of probably the greatest sporting event in the World.

What an odd wish to have.

No Crane in the 12, Overton set to come in for Ball.

Relying on swing with pink ball to win this match.

I don't get all this coming from Root about "not getting down to their level" - it's the Ashes - expect some serious sledging.

This team looks a bit mentally weak at the minute, they might need to man up a bit. When I look at Root, Malan, Ali, Woakes and Vince we look a bit puny and timid, which the last team that went to Australia and won certainly weren't.

Totally agree, its time to get a bit nasty on and off the field.

Not sure how anybody can defend Stokes actions. Initially he threw about a dozen punches, but the last punch is pure thuggery. The man is walking backwards with his hands raised in a surrender position and Stokes walks upto him and punches him in the face knocking him heavily to the ground. This man could've suffered serious brain injury or even death, thank god he's fine. A friend of mine was attacked and with a single punch his head hit the curb and he suffered massive brain injury, eventually leading to his death. There's blatant CCTV footage of all of this. Alcohol or not there's no justification for that last punch.

I agree, I watched the video and the first bit is all a bit inconclusive, one guy is being aggressor, Stokes fights back and it is a bit of a scrap, but not really Stokes' fault.  When he goes after the other guy and knocks him out, that's when he goes too far, and it can't be justified.

Nothing much is making sense here, 5 live saying it's possible we'll still play Ali as a batsman even if he can't bowl in this test. If that's the case Crane has to play. Has a side ever played in Adelaide without a spinner?

Also, why are we batting Bairstow at 7 on the basis that "he bats well with the tail?" - he's probably the 3rd best bat in the side and we have him now on 30* having to give his wicket away as it doesn't take a genius to realise our tail isnt going last too long against this pace attack.....

I read that this morning, seems like muddled thinking. I know that the conditions will suit the seamers because of the pink ball and what not, but to have Root as your only spin option really isn't enough at this level. Ali is a better bat than Ballance without doubt so shouldn't be dropped, but not having another spinner in seems strange. This is where we miss Stokes the most, you could get away with picking 1 less seamer if he were in the team and not weaken your bowling attack, and ensure the batting is solid.

Bairstow should be at 6, Ali 7. Bairstow is a proper batsman, leaving him to have to hang around with the tail who can't play the short ball is useless. Ali is a better option because he will throw the willow at it anyway, so he isn't really adapting his game.

I'm hoping to wake up tomorrow to Cook & Stoneman batting, as that would mean they have either put on a massive stand for the 1st wicket, or we have rolled the aussies over. Not sure which is more unlikely at this point.

By law, yep. But everyone has seen what he's done and it's quite clear that he's guilty of ABH.

Personally think he should be involved as well as thinking Andrew Strauss is a complete and utter bellend. The ECB are very similar if not worse than the FA on trying to keep a squeaky clean image.

Bairstow should be in at 5 or 6, we are wasting one of our bast batters and putting extra pressure putting him at 7. We need him to be able to build a partnership with someone that can get a big score, not stick around with the tail.

Bowling first in Adelaide, strange

Seems like Root was influenced by the early overhead conditions. Haven’t really bowled full enough to take advantage. We also miss a 90 mph tear away bowler

Nothing on the pitch at all and we are dropping catches again.

Next two hours are huge, floodlights and sunset. If the ball is going to do anything it's this session.
