We have to aim for Europe ! 

 

To get us there what do we need this January ? 

 

Another mobile CB ? 

 

We are rolling now and we could keep rolling all the way to Europe

In answer to your question - absolutely. We are good enough to do it, but might need one of the big boys to win the FA Cup (if we don't do it ourselves of course!). I think only the top 6 are guaranteed a place.

I thought Simpson would have been one of the first culled but he's done tremendously well at trying to fit into Puel's type of full back. Whilst he lacks offensive quality he has defencive quality in abundance and he offer a lot more support further forward than he ever has under the last two managers.

 

Simpson has been brilliant for us and deserves a chance.

I watched 6 different streams tonight, and all of the the so called experts, experts who have so much more insight then me and you all said we were clamatus.  You can't be clamatus against good clubs and that's means play like that and top 6 is a pipe dream.

As good as a European Tour would be, exactly who are we going to catch up and displace in the top 6 from Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea to get there?

Only top five gets Europe unless cup winners qualify through the league, then it's 6th and seventh. We'll overhaul Burnley for sure.

The Premier League gets seven European slots - four in the Champions League and three in the Europa. The first two in the Europa go to the winners of the FA Cup and League Cup. If the winners of both those competitions finish in the top five (which often happens these days), then sixth and seventh place in the league get into the Europa. If one of the cups is won by a top-five team, sixth place gets a Europa slot. Additionally, if Arsenal win this season's Europa League, and don't finish in the top four, they get in the Champions League as a fifth participant (like Man U this season) but that would mean only two Europa entries (again, like this season).

 

What it all boils down to is that we should aim for seventh (realistically our highest possible position) and hope for the best elsewhere. If it did give us Europa League football, we would enter in the third qualifying round so would need to win two ties (in August) to reach the group stage. Potentially, though, that would mean TEN away trips (count 'em!) if we went all the way to the final, the last of them in Baku, Azerbaijan!

 

Worth fighting for, methinks. Dillyding, Dillydong...

Ah the possibilities, it's so exciting to consider it all.

 

I see Everton and Southampton as our main rivals for 7th spot. I'm fairly confident the outcomes of the two cups will lead to there being three Europa League places, as we want.

Can't believe this is a priority.... esp with.his recent form.   Surely strength in mid field and getting a second stricken we can work with...who can come on and change a game...ie not muss nacho or slim.  There are priorities.

 

My fear is the bigger clubs may come for Maguire.
