Statistically though you're looking in the past of course whereas with the loss of such influential players I fear for Arsenal's future (relatively speaking of course at a high level). The Manchesters and Chelsea will continue to throw money at it and invest. Spurs are a little more uncertain due to the potential tightness of Levys purse strings but currently have the better manager and players (if he can keep them). Without Ozil and Sanchez Arsenal require quite a big rebuild ie 2 at the back, and a proper defensive mudfielder before even replacing those two important players. Are you confident Wenger would be the man to do that, would his board give him the money? (They'll be getting bugger all from Ozil and Sanchez to fill the coffers!) Forgetting past statistics, if you were to bet a grand on any of those teams doing well in Europe in 4yrs (Marhez 27-30yrs of age, in their present situation, could you put your money on Arsenal? Three of the others are more favourite for me and Spurs pip them as well, in the higher echelons of things I think they're in trouble. OK, I'll indulge you for a moment. Arsenal's financial future looks very sound, as far as I'm aware. Pretty sure they're a richer club than all but the Manchester clubs, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern and possibly PSG, at least in terms of revenue. If they do not manage to hold on to Özil and Sanchez (by no means certain both will leave) it will free up milions in wages and they will scoop again, just like they did when they got those two in the first place. And I do share your opinion that a new quality manager would add some fresh impetus and potentially develop the very sound foundations Wenger has helped lay there. Their board will allow spending, just like they did with Lacazette, Sanchez, Xhaka and Özil. It's a myth that they don't spend. Take away Kane, Salah, Lukaku/Pogba, Hazard and either of their competitors at the top (bar Man City) look a bit laborious. One or two top players, specifically a midfielder and a striker, is what it would take for Arsenal to become genuine league contenders again, in my opinion. To answer your bet question, as Wenger's, Özil's and Sanchez' futures are still up in the air, I'd bet on both Manchester clubs and Chelsea ahead of Arsenal. With regards to Mahrez, he would likely be a first choice there. He'd have much more able footballers around him to showcase his skills even further and attract the attention of Barca, Real, Bayern or Man City. Add in the odd cup trophy and European football and I don't see why it wouldn't make Mahrez' career feel more fulfilled.

How is moving to a bigger club, playing regular European football, earning more money (which is probably the biggest factor), increasing your chance of winning trophies, added exposure and higher quality staff, facilities and players in general a bad move for his career? No point in arguing he'd be less successful there. He's had one hugely successful season in his career, three other seasons for us where he's fluctuated between poor to decent. Going to a big club like Arsenal would be viewed as the pinnacle of most players' careers. I wouldn't say hes been poor or decent this season, I'd say hes been excellent in the most part this season. Yes he can have off days as can Hazard, Coutinho, Alexis etc

Let's see if he can sustain his current excellent form. But on overall and on average I would say "decent" is fair for the first half of this season. But I get your point. It's obviously going to be subjective how we view things. Edited 3 January 2018 by shen

I don't get why people have this attitude of players going off mardy, I'd rather someone pissed off at having to be taken off and not allowed to play than for them to be dying to get off, at least it shows a bit of fight 2
Nalis Posted 3 January 2018 Posted 3 January 2018 Its a sad state of affairs when Man U are the lesser of five evils....

reynard Posted 3 January 2018 Posted 3 January 2018 For me anyone except Liverpool. If he leaves to win things on a consistant basis then the number of clubs open to him is limited. Looks like Man City pretty much have the tile sown up for the next 2 or 3 years. Only a very few teams could win the Champions League so that only leaves domestic cups which are unpredictable due to weakened teams. Depends if he want to play as well. Likely to bench warm for some teams.
HighPeakFox Posted 3 January 2018 Author Posted 3 January 2018 Goodness me, I didn't think this would escalate! I think the stats are bogus, as too many people have accidentally voted for the polar opposite of what they actually think!

No doubt he'll end on double figures for both which not many players will except the likes of De Bruyne and Sane. Ive been the first to criticise Mahrez in the past when he's not performed well but so far this season (even taking into account his dodgy form at the start) hes been one of, if not the best player for us this season.

Maybe Manu for Mata but that'd make united weaker in some areas too. Sanchez and Ozil may be off but people said the same about Mahrez and Vardy. Iwobi - he isn't a starter is he? I hope Mahrez stays ans think that'd be best for him instead of being a big 6 bench warmer and final 15 minute player. If he leaves I hope his team fail to make Europe. Sorry but that's how I feel. foxfanazer Posted 5 January 2018 Posted 5 January 2018 Voted Chelsea. Would’ve voted Liverpool but can’t see them moving for another winger
Koke Posted 5 January 2018 Posted 5 January 2018 (edited) Chelsea United Arsenal Liverpool Tottenham If he went to Chelsea him and Hazard would lit up the league. Edited 5 January 2018 by Koke
Wymsey Posted 5 January 2018 Posted 5 January 2018 Probably Liverpool, their fans seem more genuine and realistic whilst their style-of-play would certainly suit Mahrez.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 5 January 2018 Posted 5 January 2018 If he goes, he goes. Makes no difference really, he won't be here. 2
Foxxed Posted 5 January 2018 Posted 5 January 2018 Either Chelsea for the possibility of seeing Kanté, Drinky and Mahrez on the tele down the pub again. Or Liverpool since I find them the least offensive out of all the options although isn't mo salah on the right wing for them and I doubt ryiad would displace mo. Man city ain't on your list and I generally find them inoffensive and it would give me more of a motivation to watch them idly beat 75% of the teams in this league. But! Maybe Ryiad will wait for the end of the season. He should have probably left at the end of 15/16 when his stock was at its highest, but its unlikely he'll be less wanted at the end of the season, and if there's no decent club with a decent offer and a decent position coming now, why not wait?
