People have predicted the demise of the FA Cup for years and yet it still throws up some great games, gives lesser known players a bit of time in the spotlight and gives a financial boost to a lot of lower league teams. It might not be as important as it was in the past but if it suffers from anything it's the same problems football in general faces - too many live games on consecutive days diluting the quality and the dominance of the top 4 or 5 clubs.

But then we moan when top teams go out early

We only moan if LCFC go out, I could not give a toss about the others. The more minnows that beat the Premier sides the better. As stated watching stoke and the Arse lose to lower league opposition is very satisfying. No guesses for Durhams topic on Talksport tomorrow.

The top sides generally have the better squads so their reserves are  usually good enough to win against most sides ..

And actually as Arsenal have proven winning the cup can save an average season for them.

Well they ****ed up this year :D

I've no idea what the younger generation think about the FA Cup, but as a grumpy old 40-year-old git, i still absolutely love it.

Several poor games this weekend admittedly, and no non-league teams, but still plenty of entertainment and a bit of romance. Long may it continue.

I don't think the scheduling of pointless International games that no-one gives a fuck about helps one bit.

Cut those games, you wouldn't have a fixture pile up, no extra games over Christmas, no need for a winter break and no squeezing games into a short space of time.

Agreed, removing some of the friendlies that are simply money making ploys and then there would be less congestion at christmas.

If we had Vardy fit, he would've played. Same probably goes for a few others had we not had so many games in such a small space of time.

Funny isn't it, we've just seen Forest beat Arsenal and loved it. We saw Coventry topple Stoke and enjoyed that too. But then we moan when top teams go out early or are beaten or held by lower league teams. We want the magic of the cup until we get it and then we moan that the cups dying lol

You love seeing Forest win stuff then?

Not so sure about that ...   and maybe, just maybe ..   he was fit anyway ...

Pretty sure if he was fit, he'd have been on the bench, just like against City.

I was pleased they won. While we're in the top ten of the Prem and they're still awful, I can't see them as a big rival. Plus I want to us to win the Cup, with one fewer top 5 club in there we have a better chance.

The magic of the FA Cup has long gone. Going back to when I was growing up, final day was one of the biggest sporting occasions of the year. But tbh I can’t remember the last cup final I watched. And unless it involves us can’t see me watching another.

Loved it that Forest have knocked Arsenal out though, tie of the round!  Would love a 4th round tie against them.

The FA Cup has been diminished long ago with EPL clubs putting out under-strength teams with some not bothering at all if they get knocked out. You only have to look at Leicester City's starting line up yesterday.

Ffs people on here have been screaming out for the likes of Harvey Barnes to be given a chance, we have had several countdown threads to the first start of Silva.

It can't go both ways, you can't try new players and never change your team.

If the place to experiment is not playing a team 2 leagues below You, then when is?

Think perhaps you need to check the trophey cabinets

A cynic (me) would say that it isn't managers resting first teamers, it is simply managers using their squad. I guess those that take offence to this would prefer teams to only have about 13/14 players.

+1. The only way we'll get shocks now is if the big side puts out a weakened side.

I take it "trophey" is the spelling in Notts dialect.

I'm in my teens and I love it but it's mostly because Leicester have never won it and I've never been to Wembley to watch Leicester play so I'm so desperate to see us lift it

Fair play to you mate
