Done the Jackelope which was heaving with late 20 somethings who work in marketing (Miquel in Dreamland imo !) - class as always, Kirkstall Dexter on Susan Perb form

Now in a first visit, King & Queen on Foley St in Fitzrovia and you have to say what a gaff she is by the way. Not a beer choice that will blow you away but a proper pub with well kept bevs

King & Queen is great. If you haven't tried The Bricklayers Arms, it's worth a visit and not a million miles away from where you are.

Some great pints in the Ale Wagon and Real Ale Classroom last night, followed by an excellent curry at Paddy’s. All rammed as expected on a Good Friday.

Said it before and I'll say it again, but for personal preference, the Ale Wagon is absolutely untouchable in town for me – phenomenal place

Always enjoy getting looked at as if I might be an alien because I’m under 50.

Haha we were comfortably the youngest people in there and had a couple of groups have a go at us (we were very well oiled). All part of the charm

Can't really articulate it but it definitely feels like the place in town (that does cask) that is most authentic in it's "Leicester" nature to me. Some other great places in their own right / in their own way / for different things but they don't quite have that same quality for me

Also goes under the radar just how good their beer selection is. Bathams and Holdens on regularly :trumpet:

Agreed, it’s the Hoskins link. I love the lived-in shabbiness and charm, unpretentious and just about the beer and rustic bar snacks. No better place for a pint on your own either with the litany of books and newspapers.

I just fear that it never has that long left.

The beer selection was amazing. Must have been over 10 cask ales on and some decent keg options. The Hoskins link is cool and they also do some Charnwood beers. I had an Osset Brewery guest beer which I haven’t had before and it was top notch

Can you elaborate on this at all?

I've unfortunately done very little drinking in Leicester because I moved away. I always read this thread with a little envy in that I don't know the city (or county really) from the boozer perspective.

The Bradgate in Newtown Linford.

Nice enough. Recently had a makeover and a change of management.

It's still Everard's so like so many Everard's pubs just .. Meh.

It's a shame that a local, well established brewery can't produce really nice varieties of cask ale and a really good pub atmosphere.

Everard's kinda reminds me of KP. They've got the means, just not the understanding. It's bland and uninspiring.

Pizza's are good though.

The Old Horse having another refurb.

Edit - must be a big one if they are reopening in April.

Will be far blander and less pub-like

Enjoyed seeing so many Oxford fans out and about enjoying the centre's better boozers earlier.

Big Day Out and all that but you don't usually see away fans beyond the Barley Mow these days.

Felt it was very quiet in the city centre post and pre match. I worry about the impact of the attendances on the local economy. Pubs won’t have that same banker that they’ve had previously when we’re inevitably going below 20000.
