Grow up and get behind Riyad, or: stop listening to the press and wait and see how he reacts on the pitch

I can't blame him for wanting a move to Man City.

But at the end of the day he is a professional footballer not acting professional sitting on his £100k+ a week salary.

He needs to understand the position we were in, last day of the window and how imperative he was to us as a player.

Throwing his toys out like this, he should get fined and rot in the reserves.

No player is bigger than the club.

He signed the contract and was happy to accept the monstrous wages.

With Puel now reportedly confirming that Mahrez is out of City v Swansea, what exactly are we all meant to be being grown up about?

@Finnegan

he's clearly frustrated and has responded a bit immaturely. from that, THE CLUB HAVE DECIDED that he won't play at the weekend, so there's literally no point in him going to training. it'd just disrupt the team and the preperation for the game we have in less than 24 hours. keeping him out the loop and just ignoring him for a few days, making a team and a squad to beat swansea and then on monday, 3 points in the bag he'll be back and the team, inc. riyad, will start putting plans in place for the next game.

but again, like i said last night, people want to cry about it and sensationalise it like he's genuinely going to have just "disappeared". it's all about actually having a brain and reading further than the headlines, but nobody expects that from most people on here, let alone you.

Yeh stuff like that really annoys me. You guys didn't owe Silva anything and I don't believe we owe Mahrez anything. Yes he was a huge part in us winning the league but we took him from obscurity and helped him develop into the player he is today. He doesn't owe us anything either other than basic respect but he can't even seem to do that. People are saying we are stopping him fulfilling his dreams etc and in a way we are but as I've said all through this saga, if city had bid earlier in the window then he's have gone with all our best wishes and we'd have found and replacement and everyone was happy. I don't blame the owners for putting a large fee on him on deadline day. It may come back to bite us if this saga carries on and he refuses to train/play etc but im just glad we didn't get bullied by Mahrez or by City. He's our player and we sell him on our terms.

We had this a lot as well. A lot of Everton fans said things like "you'll just sack him in the summer anyway so we'll pick him up for free!". Be that as it may, there are two things here that I am happy with: one is that we told the bigger club to shove it, and the other, perhaps more facetiously, is that Everton fans appear to self-admittedly become the 'Watford Rejects'. I don't mind if he does go there (it would also say a lot about Everton if they were to sack Allardyce this soon into his contract), but the fact remains that the bigger club took on the smaller club and lost.

One thing I've found is that players or managers who push for moves will generally do so wherever they are. Silva would have pushed for a move from Everton had a bigger-still club come calling.

Do you think he’d be ‘depressed’ if he’d moved to Man City?

Nah...you’re spouting tripe again kid.

He needs to man up, get his head off moving until the summer, show some loyalty and start earning his salary.

In your case, "Col", it's pretty much a lost cause. I don't think you've been grown up about anything for as long as you've been on foxestalk to be fair, pal.

lol

Regards what Puel has and hasn't said, as far as I'm aware he stated that the club made the decision to leave Mahrez out, not that Mahrez has refused.

It seems Riyad has been given a brief leave of absence to get his head sorted following the window. Literally no voice in the club is stating what so ever that he's refusing to play, right? I'm genuinely asking, if I've missed something fair enough.

But the BBC right now are giving a classic example of exactly what I'm complaining about.

Headline: MAHREZ MISSES TRAINING FOR FOURTH DAY IN A ROW.

Smallprint: it's not actually clear if he's awol or if the club just gave him some time off.

Quote, even further down: Manager: "the club took the decision."

Your reaction: WELL THAT CONFIRMS IT RIYAD IS A NOB RAH RAH RAH.

I mean ffs, that's just not what anyone has said. Right?

I think we all know the club are releasing harmonious soundbites about the team and situation. And I think we all know, sulky sack has got one on him and is behaving like a petulant kid. To keep typing otherwise is ludicrous!

Whatever the outcome; I am proud that the club stood up for itself. In the long run that fact might prove more valuable than Mahrez in future negotiations.

You’re clearly saying that it’s fine that Mahrez isn’t involved at the moment whilst he’s sorting himself out.

I don’t think it is. There’s points to play for and he’s our best player.

Boo fookin hoo that he didn’t get his move. Imagine how he’d be if something was ‘really’ wrong with him.

But I genuinely don’t expect yourself or Finnegan to go down any other track than you’ve gone down. I’d have put money on it.
