Popular Post baldeagle Posted 10 June 2018 Popular Post Posted 10 June 2018 Not really sure on people’s obsession with Dragovic don’t get me wrong he’s an good defender but he’s not a worldy and he’s certainly not worth £15 £20 million, he’s already stated he didn’t want to be here if Puel is still here . Plus we have only seen him in a handful of games against lower opposition where as Puel has seen him week in week out in training . I’m pretty sure there is better value for money out there 7

CarbonVirtine Posted 10 June 2018 Posted 10 June 2018 Benny's alright. I'll not have a word said against him. He just goes a bit ma-ma-ma-ma-mad from time to time. It's kinda fun in a way, like a lottery or summat. 2

I reckon we are missing a trick with him. It is not his natural position. One of the main reasons he's often had to play centre-back for Ghana lately is the overabundance of quality in central midfield with Boateng, Partey and Asamoah in particular, coupled with the lack of centre-backs per se. Sure, he's done a good job there, but let's not forget Ghana had Mali and Uganda in their group at the AFCON and beat lowly DR Congo in the Quarter-Finals, only to lose out against Burkina Faso in the match for third place. Not to take anything away from his performances, but the opposition on that international level is doubtful to underwhelming, not comparable to life in the Premier League. Amartey has yet to play a team outside of Africa with Ghana, btw. But maybe Puel sees it differently and will deploy Amartey at centre-back a few times during pre-season. Let's see how it works out... 1

Why should it be locked and why should it be in the "Who Do You Want" Thread? Dragovic's been a former loan player at LCFC and the link and our interest in the player still exist, the transfer fee is the big hurdle to overcome.

There's been no links to him for ages though and it's clear Puel doesn't fancy him Getting him interested in coming back here is the biggest hurdle. Tenuous links are sometimes locked threads and this isn't. Just seems like consistency to me. I'd love him here but so bored of people banging on about us lining up with him, him being 3rd choice etc when it's going to take a 180 for him to arrive 1

I didn't know that, thanks. It makes sense, and goes some way to explaining a common enough confusion amongst some of us. Looking back to when we signed him from FC Copenhagen (and before), I find no reference to him being a centre back - merely a 'versatile' defensive midfielder, one who can play in both positions praps, a utility player even. Sometimes he's referred to as 'right sided' but that could be because we've played him there. I think CR signed him hopeful that he might fill the Kante void but that didn't work out so he's ended up deputising for Simpson. For me though, he's always looked uncomfortable at right back, overwhelmed almost. He's done a decent enough job in some respects but hasn't blazed a trail. I just thought he was out of position at full-back but maybe that's as good as he gets! I recall he had a good game against Club Brugge, and that was in the midfield, but I don't think we were really challenged that night. Edited 10 June 2018 by CarbonVirtine

CosbehFox Posted 10 June 2018 Posted 10 June 2018 (edited) I think it’s pretty simple isn’t it? Drago was second choice to the attempted Evans signing last summer. A year later, Evans could be signed for £3.5m or Drago for £18m. Finances say Evans As for Amartey, if I was him I’d leave. He needs games. He’s still young and still learning. Go down a step to build again. Edited 10 June 2018 by Cardiff_Fox 1
mozartfox Posted 14 June 2018 Posted 14 June 2018 Although pretty clear already, reports here have confirmed we have not exercised the option to purchase. So Evans will be the back-up for Morgan. 1

Just can't see Wes leaving and so that would mean Amarety could be 5th choice CB, 3rd choice RB and probably even behind Choudarry in CM. I still think he has lots of attributes to become a decent CB, but he needs to be playing now. Loan to a decent Championship club would be perfect.

Popular Post STUHILL Posted 14 June 2018 Popular Post Posted 14 June 2018 Don't now why people get so butt hurt over suggestions we need to replace an ageing CB who has dropped off in performance levels. He was brilliant for us for many seasons but age has caught up with him and he will always struggle with this new style anyway. He will likely see out his final year here and be given a nice send off next Summer. Should be no higher than 4th choice CB for us next season though. 11

Sol thewall Bamba Posted 14 June 2018 Posted 14 June 2018 Have the feeling this would have already happened if we were interested. 1

I have a hunch he is the one that has put a stop to a permanent move here. Even if we were interested, which you'd have to assume we should have been after what we saw from him, I just think he would have wanted assurances of game time and we couldn't give that to him due to the imminent signing of Evans. Fair play to him, as he is too good to be bench warmer for us. Just hope we still plan to sign another CB who can challenge Evans and Maguire.
