Your Happy Place

My parents recently got a place in kelling heath in Norfolk and that is my happy place now. The place is in the middle of woodland on the site and completely silent if you go out of season apart from the natural wildlife. So sitting outside when the sun is setting with a decent local beer is class. There is also a pub on site which is good, also love all the local areas like holt, Wells, Holkham etc. The coastline is spectacular.

At work I recently got a site with Lovell homes in holt so have been down a lot recently and just wanna stay. Can’t wait to go back for a week in September. On another note the pubs are all brilliant in north Norfolk.

Another one would be sitting outside the 2be beer wall in Bruges overlooking the canal. World class beer and setting.

Some good little breweries popping up in Norfolk finally. And yeah great pubs, mostly thanks to the charm and wit of the locals.

Corbiere in Jersey. Basically a lighthouse surrounded by a load of rocks. Can sit there for hours as the tide comes in.

Have a few places on the east coast that have the same effect.

One is a hotel bar, The Sea Marge. It’s on the coast and has a great open fire. Just feel great there. Just round the corner from where Winston Churchill used to have a house.

Bradagte park

What's the point in having some exotic cape as your happy place?

When it's gets to me, y'know the weight of the world or my inner demons; I always go to those high rocks that overlook the path.

Sorted me out in many a dark hour.

I haven't done that for decades but it's nice to know it will always be minutes away.

Anywhere in the Highlands of Scotland.

North Norfolk coast, especially the beaches at Heacham or Holkham.

Walking in the Sibillini mountains in central Italy.

Some semi-ruined medieval church up a mountain somewhere in the Balkans.

Many, many pubs.

Took this last year, not that good but Wells is quite nice.

There is a place near my old village, fields with oak trees, ponds, small droves with overhanging trees.

in summer it’s stunning and brings back so many childhood memories.

My ashes are definitely going there.

Are they the new homes on the right as you leave Holt for Kelling?

mate I love Kelling too,and as you say out of riff raff season is my favourite.

That view from the railway platform near the fishing pond,(where my lad spends his days)

looking to Weybourne is great.

Dunno if I’ve told you,the shop opposite “ The ship” in Weybourne is run by Leicester supporters.

When I was 9 or 10 we went youth hostelling with the school to a place called Martham in Norfolk, think it was next door to Hopton. I'd like to see it again some day.

Might be Hemsby not Hopton.

Apart from Lynn ?

and shitty Burnham Market ( I have my reasons)

Yeah Burnham Market can fvck off.

Lynn's got some nice architecture. And the train line to Cambridge and London keeps it vaguely suburban and commutery and stops it from turning into Wisbech.

living on the canal with the water out my window/off the balcony can vouch for this.

belgrave roof in the leeds for a beer in the sunshine, or woolton woods in liverpool, stroll round there under the trees and stuff. dreamy.

Belgrave is a cracking spot for a pint or two tbf. Bit expensive on a student budget however.

Happy place is probably Trent Bridge in the sunshine with a few beers. Cannot beat it.

My happy place is more mental than physical. It doesn't make a lot of difference if say, I was on a beautiful beach, a mountain area, gardens, or just in a small bench or sitting at home. As long as I'm getting some peace of mind and not feeling down, I'm happy.

Less is more I guess:dunno:

This thread is a happy place.  :)  There is so much heart in it, folks revealing something beautiful.

Beats the hell out of any tourist advertising, to make me want to grab the wife and get back to your island.

In the States, beautiful simple places are undervalued -- they tend to get paved over into something new, or else forgotten.  And I shouldn’t complain.  I plan our travels around new discoveries, then bitch if an old favorite spot is gone.

Fortunately, with the right company / weather / beverage (in that order) the world is full of happy places.

Pembroke College, Cambridge.

I can sit in the gardens and contemplate life, for hours. I love the tranquility and the architecture

Many, many years ago, I camped there in a field just in front of the pub (is it still there?) which was full of magic mushrooms; the views from the top of Scafell when tripping are unbelievable.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge, - who used to scale the Lord's Rake on opiates.

I agree with Izzy and the Fox....happiness is a state of mind, and you need to try to reside in that happy space in your head - which isn't always Easy. Particularly some days when  I feel like this...

Fortunately, that's rare.

I could say through hiking and climbing in South Island New Zealand and The High Sierras in California I have found almost zen like satisfaction. But I equally derive as much wonder, fascination and euphoria gazing into and contemplating the night sky from a field in South Leicestershire, away from the light pollution of the suburbs and city, or catching a snowflake/maybe staring at the chitin lattice of a butterfly wing in my own back garden.

Winning away at Spurs is always a happy place to be.

Cycling is a great stress buster and is not just good for your body, its also good for your mind.

Amen.

I'm moving back to my happier place later this month. I've been in the UK for a year now, in a wonderful part of England. Gorgeous countryside and wonderful, friendly people. I'll miss aspects of it without a doubt. The town particularly; there's an excellent arts centre showing a surprisingly good selection of films (hats off to their scheduler), a number of decent pubs and some damned fine restaurants. All in all, I've enjoyed my time here....

...BUT...

...I have missed my cycling. I brought my bike over and ventured out a couple of times but I'm afraid I just don't enjoy cycling around here. Mainly it's the state of the roads, but it's also the volume of traffic. I really don't feel particularly safe riding around here. Also (and this is not a complaint, I understand the whys of it, and applaud it), the hedgerows here are left to grow taller than I'm used to it. That restricts visibility. I can't see the countryside as I cycle. Sometimes it's like riding down a green tunnel. Whilst I will miss many things about life here, my life in rural France is certainly more peaceful and, on balance, more enjoyable... not least for the cycling.
