The Jerk and Planes, Trains and Automobiles are two of my favourite films, he was fantastic in both those films. Still seems like a nice bloke but the comedy in his acting these days seems very forced

As a kid I hated vegetables, now I like many of them.

Used to like Danny Drinkwater, not so much these days

Used to like tea, can't be arsed with it anymore. Funnily I used to hate coffee, now I love it

For pure comedy value, I would say The Man With Two Brains was Steve Martin's pinnacle.

Boris Johnson - initially thought he was a daft individual who somehow worked his way up, but over the past couple of years actually perceive him as intelligent and a likeable character.

Interesting. I think either people already thought he was intelligent and their position on that is the same or he's gone down in people's opinion over the last couple of years.

For the record I don't think he's an idiot, I think he's daft and acts silly at times. There's clearly a brain in there. I do think he's shit at his job though, and the last couple of years have made me even more certain of that.

Of course he's intelligent, he studied at Eton and Oxford. I still think he puts the 'daft' thing on. Don't like him.

On a similar topic, I once thought studying at Eton meant you had to be smart, now I just know it often means you merely have the right amount of money to throw at the administration.

Oxford (and Cambridge, come to that) is not quite so bad as that, though.

At what exactly?

Do you really need a list, is not the discrepancy between rich and poor obvious enough?

If the poor are getting better off, which they are,why does it later if someone has more than they do?

I used to thought that this thread has potential to be interesting but now it appears to have turned into a political slinging borefest :P

Fair point, I'll leave it at that.

Someone can certainly have more than another, but when some have nothing and others have more than enough we have a problem

It's what makes him dangerous.

I think he's dismissive, arrogant and has little empathy. Basically, if he doesn't see something as a problem then it isn't one and he thinks no further.

Yeah...I like to spout off about that as much as the next nerd does but let's try and keep one thread at least free of it, huh?

In an effort for that...

Used to not be able to stand anything garlic-related, now it's practically my favourite food group.

What people/things have you changed your mind about, @Webbo?

I've changed my mind about....

People:

- Vardy: 5 years ago, I wasn't sure whether he'd make it at Championship level

- Mourinho: I used to find the way he wound up media & other managers entertaining, now I just find him sour and boorish (I think it might be him who's changed, though)

- Gove: Still disagree fundamentally with his politics, but no longer find him sneering & objectionable on a personal level

- Glitter: I used to think he was a fun guy with some good songs, now I'm not so sure....

Things:

- Abolition of the monarchy: Would now oppose abolition unless someone came up with a new, popular constitutional settlement. A well-trained hereditary monarch with largely symbolic status might be the best possible head of state

- Trees: Used to be pretty neutral about trees, but now often find them beautiful, characterful or even downright strange when you ponder their weirdness. poking up at right-angles to the earth like that

- Sports apart from football and cricket: As a youth, I'd avidly watch athletics, 5 nations rugby, big boxing fights, Olympics, even a bit of tennis, snooker, skiing or whatever. Now have no interest in any sport other than football & cricket

- Achievement: I used to have a vague idea that I'd like to "achieve something in life" (not sure what!). I'd still like to lead an interesting life, to feel that I'd been a half-decent Dad, to complete a few writing projects and to believe that those I respected thought well of me. But I'm now at ease with the idea of achieving nothing special in life.

There's lots of indie music that made sense in my late teens early twenties that I now find tedious. The Smiths, especially.

I used to think Terrence Malick was a genius but after his recent films I think he did a Ranieri 2015/16 with Badlands, a one off moment of magic that he's incapable of repeating.

When Vardy gave away a penalty vs 'boro in 2013, I hoped he'd played his last game for us.

Why do you want to know?

I can't honestly think of anything off hand.

Just curious. It's the subject of the thread, after all, and I just saw your name pop up posting.

I seem to remember Paul Kaye saying later that it was the only time he felt sorry for anyone when he did Dennis Pennis, because he could see that Steve Martin looked genuinely sad and in agreement.
