Our boys did alright. Adrien was nice and tidy and Ricardo was ready on the overlap constantly. The 2nd Uruguay goal was more to do with Rui Patricio's positioning than Ricardo's.

Uruguay is the total opposite of Argentina, a proper team with a plan working hard for each other. Well played to them.

Agree with this, it's weird how they play such different football. Argies must hate that Uruguay got further than them, it would be like if Northern Ireland did better than England

I was impressed with Silva again... in a team with good movement he is the one who keeps the ball rolling. We need to try and utilise this next season! And I was impressed with Ricardo too, he had a cagey start but as he game went on he looked decent!

Any word on the Cavani injury? Got a bit of a soft spot for Uruguay's shithousery, I shouldn't but I do. Would be a shame if he's out.

Agreed, he was quality tonight, can see him and Suarez being a really handful for the French!

Uruguay could be a tough nut to crack... arguably the best defence in the World Cup, and a world class attack, with a capable midfield filling.... I’d fancy them as underdogs from here on in, they are extremely hard to beat when they take the lead, even Ronaldo was left clueless at times.... very impressed, very diffferent performance to France, but equally as impressive.

The group stages told me that Portugal were nothing special, had one good game against Spain, but still conceded 3, lucky to win against Morocco then drew to VAR (Iran.) Also tonight showed my that Messi is a far better professional than Ronaldo. You would never see Messi be selfish in the dying minutes when you're losing.

I thought Ronaldo lending his shoulder to Cavani who was limping off the pitch was a class act.

Just because he wanted to get on with the game. Doesn't make him a good player. He's bang average at best.

Ronaldo is one of the biggest bell-sniffers of all time, but bang average?  He is an unbelievable footballer who in my opinion is better than Messi, and that hurts to say because I detest the guy.

I have to say, I thought the media tossing themselves off over this was weird.

Don't get me wrong, Ronaldo does a lot of charitable stuff outside of football and there's absolutely nothing wrong with him trying to hurry up the game when his team are losing, I'm not criticising him for that.

But equally, it wasn't a sweet sporting gesture he was trying to make sure Cavani didn't milk his injury so they could get back on with the game. That simple.

Like I said, nothing wrong with that, but really wasn't the beautiful moment the media want it to be.

You want to see the best at the latter stages of the World Cup but a small part of me is glad it's not an Argentina v Portugal quarter final as the build up would have been billed as 'Messi v Ronaldo' (assuming Ronaldo wouldnt have picked up that yellow) whilst ignoring the 20 other players involved...

It hardly made a difference time-wise whether Cavani would've been helped or not, he can only limp that fast.

When's the last time you seen a footballer assisting another one from the opposing team getting off the pitch?

it meant that Cavani took the shortest route off the pitch at the fastest pace possible - he was limping more slowly before CR intervened.

Again, it wouldn't have made a massive difference and the referee - as most referees do - was likely to include this break in time added on.

Funny, isn't it?

But the time was included in time added on. The referee went at least one minute over the initially indicated time.

In any case, it didn't make a massive difference. Even if you go with the theory that Ronaldo wanted to speed up things, what impact did it have? lol

Uruguay have a very tough route to the final but they are a class team. Resolute at the back with two world beaters up front.

It's crazy they were 33-40/1 to win it when teams like Argentina were a quarter of the price.

Godin, Jiminez, Beta, Cavani and Suarez are all World Class or thereabouts.

What a nation as well, population smaller than Birmingham, punch above their weight to a ridiculous level.
