In both preseason games it’s notable that we are pressing high and fast. I hope it’s not just for show because we were so good at it in 15/16 and it makes for a great watch as a spectator.

I think it’s deliberate. If you want to improve a quick passing style then a narrow and firm pitch is ideal. A bit like a five a side pitch really sharpens up your touch and close passing. Remember the result is irrelevant really it’s more about the implementation of Puel’s dictated style and tactics.

I don’t mind the size so much and of course the result as you say is irrelevant my issue (and it could just be me) is the pace that the ball runs across the pitch seems very fast so not very indicative of what they’ll be up against in the season

We’ve needed this type of player for ages. 

 

Only my worry is he becomes our only creative player. We keep saying it but it’s true - Madders and Riyad would have been great to watch together.
