You need to be ruthless b******* and put it out of reach, kill it off but mentally easier said than done. And they don't face that kind of tempo over there, it's too hot for any of that charging about stuff. And teams are rarely great in luminous yellow, as the saying goes - look like stewards play like stewards. Theee slices of wisdom there. How do you explain what just happened? It's ALL in the head. Barcelona just weren't on the same motivational level as Liverpool tonight. They had no idea what to do when things got tough. On ability alone they should not of conceded 4 goals yet as soon as the first goal went in, the narrative was fed. Messi's head dropped, flashbacks from last season at Roma and Liverpool players and fans believed. Barcelona are so mentally weak it's unbelievable, whereas Klopp's Liverpool and Guardiola's City are mentally strong which comes from their respective managers.
splinterdream Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 I'm pleased for shaqiri to be part of that, frozen out from Klopp
fazzyfox Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Here's another angle, do you think this would have happened if we'd held Man City to a draw last night ie Liverpool realistically went from having two focuses to one. In a roundabout way we can claim some credit for this.
Dan Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 People never cease to amaze me. How on earth is Messi getting the blame for that?

Tuna Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Breathtaking game of football, thoroughly deserved by Liverpool I thought they had no chance going into this. How vital does that daft miss from Dembele in injury time in the first leg look now?

He’s still a human being, mate. Has Tiger Woods won every major he’s played in? Federer? Did Don Bradman score a century in every game? Did Michael Schumacher win every race?
martyn Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 No fan of Liverpool but that was great to watch. Hopefully Ajax join them, it would be a great final to watch and the thought of Spurs having a chance to lift the trophy is sickening. Barca need a refresh badly, the genius of Messi has done a good job of hiding their deficiencies but they had absolutely no answer for Liverpool's intensity. They would have been better off starting Dembele instead of Coutinho, stretch the game a bit and give a threat in behind.

Teams literally put 3/4 players on him. This should free up other so called world class players who haven't done anything in two legs. He was the only one who turned up for Barca in the first leg which is why they won that leg
sm1 Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Barca were psychologically finished as soon as the first goal went in. You could see the panic as they remembered last seasons game against Roma. Pretty weak mentally, just like PSG who win their domestic league easily. I really dislike Liverpool but Klopp has developed some team.
TheSomersetFox Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 Just now, The Horse's Mouth said: This has nothing to do with Ronaldo I’m sure it has everything to do with Ronaldo, if you’re calling out Messi for not turning up tonight
rachhere Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 My favourite part about that corner was that the goalie was shouting at his players, psyching them up to keep focused and defend the corner, only to then to suddenly realise what was happening.
martyn Posted 7 May 2019 Posted 7 May 2019 And Messi is the last player to blame for this. Barca would have been out of sight if his teammates had finished the chances he laid on a plate at 3-0 first leg. Not to mention the 2 one on one's he created today for Suarez and Alba as well.

That's not my fight, I rate Messi as the better footballer and Ronaldo the better goalscorer. My point is, should the greatest of all time and captain of his side be overseeing an absolutely humiliating display? This was his to win, his to draw level with Ronaldo, be the team to end Real Madrid's dominance of the champions league, he had all the motivation to do so and he didn't have the impact a player who is considered the greatest of all time should have imo, no leadership, no touch of class.
