Livid Posted 2 August 2018 Posted 2 August 2018 I don't know if I'm bothered anymore. I'm disappointed there was no immediate replacement for Mahrez, I assumed that as soon as that was done we would be straight onto getting in one of a number of targets. We don't seem to be strongly linked with anyone, new names get thrown into the mix daily. I just don't think I would be wowed by whoever they got in. We look a bit desperate. 1
dpjfox Posted 2 August 2018 Posted 2 August 2018 Weve known for a year Mahrez was going and still no replacement, all of a sudden one week left of transfer window were alledgedly"in talk" with Pepe Promes Januzai and Hazard, even if one signed theres no time to settle in before start of season 1
FrankieADZ Posted 2 August 2018 Posted 2 August 2018 i dont get why some want a big name signing, dont get me wrong it would be nice to get a massive name here, though it doesnt always mean that theyll be decent or anything and then theyd get slated for it if they arent..... personally i think we started the window well but its kind of tailed off, still need least 2/3 more in imo, another creative wide player, CB and maybe another forward(not as much as the other 2)

Wellens?
Grebfromgrebland Posted 2 August 2018 Posted 2 August 2018 I don't know what people are complaining about we've managed to offload Mahrez, get in players in positions we need to strengthen and potentially get rid of Gray for a paltry 30M. This could mean we make a profit of 32M so far. Musa sounds like he's off too for about 12M so that's like 43M profit. I actually really want to keep Gray though and but he comes good.

BlueSi13 Posted 3 August 2018 Posted 3 August 2018 The fact that (as it stands with a week to go to the new season) we are actually making a net profit this summer says all you need to know about the owners faith in Puel. 1

bpfox Posted 3 August 2018 Posted 3 August 2018 it all started well, i thought gee we will push for a top 6 spot now i think we will be down with the other shit sides. really cant work out why we have not signed a C/B and a replacement for mahraz. if no further signings come in puel will be out of a job insIde 6 WEEKS. 1
Rusko187 Posted 3 August 2018 Posted 3 August 2018 I don't feel we need a "big name" signing but we need an experienced/upcoming winger and CB. Got quite a large squad though, need to get rid of a load of players!

Because the squad is too big. We need to sell a couple of players on big wages. We have signed Evans and Maddison who are a CB and Mahrez replacement. Remember Riyad was not world class when we signed him. I have high hopes for this season, top 8.

Guest Chocolate Teapot Posted 3 August 2018 Posted 3 August 2018 My biggest disappointment is that I don't really see us improving. We consistently just trying to keep our heads above water - hold onto our best players and recruit players who are no better really than we've really got. Evans I'm not sure about - he was poor last season and looked slow from what I've seen. Time will tell. Perreira looks a good footballer but I worry about him positionally. Again too early to judge. Maddison looks great but he's young so I expect some inconsistency. We keep selling our best players every summer, and I'm not sure where this big reinvestment the owners promised on players has gone. Also as far as pre-season goes, I'm not sure what we're learning - several players have been given way more game time than we will see them during the season - I'll be highly suprised if we see Elder play left wing for us? All seems quite disfunctional to be honest, and I think we'll be in for a similar first 8 games as we had last season. I think Benalouane and Wes being the most likely starters at United on Friday sums it up to be honest. The rumours persist about Puel as well, which would suggest no one is convinced by him. If we end up sacking him early doors this year, it'll be a farce, as we may as well have done it at the end of last season, but as is ever the case with our club, common sense never prevails.

But...maybe our best business has been not losing our other best players like Wilf, Jamie Harry, Kasper, and maybe, just maybe we can improve what we have with Kelechi and Damarai etc. Not saying it’s a definite but I hate the idea that young players won’t improve. 1

So if Puel has been told from 'above' - that's it - no more funds for new players and he is left exposed at CB and without another goal threat, he may not be around after the leaves turn brown. I thought the promise was he could spend a certain sum plus the Mahrez cash? I must be mistaken. At least give Johnson a contract and give him a chance?

Exactly - I have said this hundreds of times and everytime I seem to have been shot down but it's pretty obvious there are no additonal funds beyond selling players, which I have to say is very odd, particularly if the owners want to improve. Where's all the 'big cash' gone that we were promised? I'm no Puel fan, however I can't really see how any manager can function well in such a dysfunctional structure. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/04/26/claude-puel-fighting-save-job-leicester-city-club-plans-big/ I'm not seeing the big overhaul that was suggested and Danny Simpson is still here - many told me it would be really easy to shift him and Wes, and the like of Ulloa, Slimani, etc....
psychonaut Posted 3 August 2018 Posted 3 August 2018 (edited) The owners arent stupid they realise the club will never be able to break the top 6 unless they invest £400M+ on the squad so will just tread water enough to avoid the being dragged to the bottom and milk the premier league for all its worth. I've hard this "happy with my squad" stuff a million times before. It's default manager speak for most, just in case the players they want out and those they want in don't materialise. Pearson did it constantly. Lets just see where we end up in a weeks time.

Eh... if they had no faith in this they wouldn't keep him in the job. He's being given his chance.
