The same pattern as emerged with a lot of our new signings, give them 10 minutes here and there, never a consistent run of games and then they get written off as shit,Slimani is an excellent option if we played to his strengths and I’m sure we could get more from musa, and a similar story now with Kelechi, the same people wo don’t give players a chance are the same ones who give managers like Puel too many chances.

If players are good enough they will get a chance, Ndidi and Maguire are proof of that.

He has never been given a real opportunity in the first team.

And he only got to make 5 appearances for the u23s, and in those he contributed 3 assists.

He was never going to force Vardy or Mahrez out, which only left the position which every manager has liked Albrighton in.

What is he meant to do when he doesn’t get given a run of games to show he is worth using?

Very harsh to judge him on the odd 20 minute appearance.

Especially as given the one time he did get given a run of games, he did perform.

You obviously have not been watching for the last two years.

As has been said, he’s had two years to force his way into the squad under three different managers, all of whom could see he was, on all the evidence, very poor.

There is no merit in extending his stay to three years to prove he has something; we have been paying his wages to prove himself for a very long time, and enough is enough.

A good performance once a year in a World Cup or pre season does not a decent PL player make. This is a professional football club playing at the highest level, not a charity where we set out to rehabilitate under performing players over years and years in the hope they may be as good one day as we hoped they were when they were signed.

There are many many players out there who are significantly better than Musa, and the fact we have had the opportunity to offload this guy for £12m and have not, quite frankly beggars belief.

We don't know it was a fact or what the deal was even if it was a deal... remember when they said we were getting£40m.... pinch of salt

We still need to make a marquee signing to replace Mahrez IMO. I can't guarantee that Musa, Diabatte or Gray will step up.

I have little faith in any of those 3 getting anywhere near replacing Mahrez. Gray has shown few signs of progress in his time with us, bar the odd flash of brilliance. He's got skill but his decision making is appalling. He's a classic Match of the Day highlights player, who other clubs' fans rate because they don't have to watch him for a full game. He's typical of many kids who get scouted  by academies - fast, with a few tricks and an ability to dribble, but utterly selfish.  Diabaté,  by contrast, looked good in his substitute cameos last season as he would look to pass and move, as well as try tricks and dribble. But when he starts games he has little impact and he has been very poor in pre season so far. As for Musa, I just don't think he's good enough for the PL. Can't believe we didn't take the £12m offer from the Saudis, assuming that story is true.

If we start the new season with these 3 and Albrighton as our wing options, it's going to be a very long, hard slog, I think. Hate to be this negative but it's just how I feel.

In Gray's defense, and I haven't been much of a fan since he joined due to reasons you have pointed out yourself, and based on what I've seen this pre-season, he seems to have changed a little bit. Less of that fancy showboating, I see more focus, a more direct approach, more clinical finishing. He's somewhat stopped overcomplicating things whilst attacking and doesn't give the ball away so easily any longer. So, there is hope he can make that impact everyone was sort of expecting from him.

Diabaté I agree is the one player that has constantly shown a lack of application this pre-season, performing like Gray did in previous years. Probably the one player that has been the most underwhelming this summer so far, alongside Morgan (but who is near the end of his career and losing his ability due to different reasons).

Maybe a loan switch would suit him best.

I have faith in Albrighton, he's got the experience, is at the perfect stage of his career at age 28, nearing the pinnacle. If he finally manages to be a bit more threatening in front of goal and add more than just two league goals, we'll be fine and I'll be very happy for him.

Right wing is the position that concerns me the most. Obviously playing Pereira there yesterday hints at an emergency tactical move, in case we fail to bring in another or two more high-profile wingers this summer.

Bernard and/or Bailey, please make it happen. :fc:

I don't want to go through another season with Musa played on either wing.

I'd be happy for Albrighton too; he seems like a great lad and works so hard for the team; my youngest son loves him! He worked brilliantly as a foil for Riyad but with a less talented wing partner, there'll be more onus on him to create and score and I'm just not sure he will be able to step up to the task. Hope that I'm wrong.

Yes, and those clubs either have few or no World Cup participants or have amassed a plethora of new players that need to find into the swing of things first.

Also, despite the sale of Mahrez, we have no clue whether the club are holding back signing new players because of wage issues or because they are in negotiations and nothing has been sealed yet.

The impatience from some on here is cringeworthy at times.

I'm a bit happy clappy normally but last night's Liverpool man u game show 2 different approaches for teams in similar positions.

Liverpool played much closer to their first team and pissed it. Mourinho played a load of kids and blamed world cup and lack of transfers.

We are somewhere in the middle but with our line-up yesterday appear closer to the man u approach.

I'm just glad we are playing man u and not Liverpool first game.

Definitely need to crank it up a level now though.

Foxestalk in a nutshell. “Didn’t watch but I assume it was no good and I have made an opinion”

sorry @l444ry you were first I saw that posted something like that

Was tongue in cheek. However, it's the first game I've missed of any description live in the stadium, home or away, streamed or on TV, since Claude took over. No offence taken HoustonFox.

Gray has looked good in the last 3 pre-seasons, so don't be too certain he's changed yet.
