What a horror show. I think I've got selective amnesia because i didn't remember that 5-0 drubbing by Palace, until now. Just goes to show how shit we play against average teams. Was expecting 20pts but looking at those results, we'll get around 12-14pts.

It was awful! The first four matches though we have looked a completely different team to that one (which went something like 80 minutes during one match without a shot on target). Bearing in mind that we are still transitioning in new players and are already looking pretty decent going forward, I am feeling confident that we won't be seeing the same patterns this season. I anticipate seeing the following, but remain hopeful that we could turn the Cardiff and Brighton matches into a win.

Bournemouth ( A ) = Draw

Huddersfield ( H ) = Win

Newcastle ( A ) = Draw

Everton ( H ) = Win

Arsenal ( A ) = Loss

West Ham ( H ) = Win

Cardiff ( A ) = Draw

Burnley ( H ) = Win

Brighton ( A ) = Draw

Watford ( H ) = Draw

Fulham ( A ) = Draw

= 18 points (22 points best case scenario)

This is why I hate these 'how many points will we get' threads. We start an 'easy' run of games and inevitably we **** it up. Not too many were predicting an absolute gubbing at Bournemouth to kick off our 'winning' run.

I honesty think we're in for another 'meh' season. Out of the cups before the semis and somewhere around a midtable finish. Would be very surprised to see us go down this season given the poor quality down there already.

On top of that, we'll go to a series of great, poor and bang average runs throughout the season. But so will about 8 other teams.

On paper now it gets a lot easier :

Bournemouth ( A )

Huddersfield ( H )

Newcastle ( A )

Everton ( H )

Arsenal ( A )

West Ham ( H )

Cardiff ( A )

Burnley ( H )

Brighton ( A )

Watford ( H )

Fulham ( A )

Say 5 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses from the above and we would be sitting on 23 points from 15 matches.

Be happy with that before a horror run of fixtures in December.

What are people's expectations now based on the 4 results and our current form?

Quite a few people were expecting 20-25 points which basically means winning 5 of the remaining 7 fixtures. Maybe that is too optimistic?

Unlikely to get anything at Arsenal and the West Ham games looks more difficult than it did a few weeks ago though Watford's form has dropped a bit since.

Thought my original prediction was quite conservative but now thinking this was optimistic.

The six games following the Arsenal match are crucial for the club and even more crucial for Puel.

I swear this just keeps getting repeated over and over again but we're still stuck arguing the same points, positives and negatives, over and over.

We are ticking along at 1.5pts a game which is responsible.

Just can't see us taking many points from the top 6 so we need to cash in when we play the weaker teams

I think around 13 will be decent.

We have arsenal, tottenham, man city, chelsea. We will be lucky to get 1 point from them.

Winnable game are Cardiff   west ham, and Burnley.

The rest are away games againts Brighton, fulham, and Palace with home againts Watford.

Watford will be complicated ones so might be a draw. The rest 3 are likely draw but we could win one of them.

I said I'd like 20 and hope for more. We have 6, I now expect 12 more.

… so 11 points so far then with 9 maximum left from the three remaining games.

Not great .. but given that none of us could have predicted what was going to

happen … not that bad either.

We are a mid table club at present with no real consistency.

Considering what has happened the return is pretty good really. We could use a few points from the next three though as the following four include Chelsea, Tottenham, Man City and a visit to Palace where we got thumped last season. Then we are half way through the season so will have a much better feel for how we are going to do.

Not going to be an easy time for the players and staff though.

So we have 2 of these 11 games left.

12 points so far

What's everyone assessment?

It's pretty much as I expected as I thought would happen and it's very comparable to that January run we had last season, not alot has changed imo. Stuttering and struggling with the same mistakes being made over and over.

12 points (With the potential to still make that 18) is poor from that run of games i'd say, albeit unfortunate circumstances happening during the run, but 5 of those 12 points came directly after the sad events.

What I will say that the first 30 minutes in the Arsenal and Burnley games were the most exciting, impressive and enjoyable under Puel during 12 months.

Poor result at Bournemouth, expected wins v Huddersfield, Newcastle and Cardiff, expected defeat at Arsenal although the first 30 minutes was a good effort, poor result v West Ham, should've beaten Burnley in an ok performance and today isn't that bad- we're the only team outside the top 5 to have won at Brighton since their promotion.

Think we're four points behind what we would expect but the West Ham draw was the most disappointing, I felt we gave it all against Burnley before the events got to the players.

Pretty much in line or even slightly better than I expected. There are no easy wins in this league. However, we really could use 6 points from the next two matches and they would certainly be gaems I would be targetting though as I said there is no given.

IF we can win with Southampton in the cup AND get at least 7 points from our next 5 games, which are

Watford ( H )

Fulham ( A )

Spuds (H)
Palace (A)

Chelski (H)

...that would be something.

Overall I'm not impressed with Puel, BUT I'm incined to give him (and the players) a bit of extra padding after the tragedy...

Last season around this time we won 4 games which is to this day our longest winning streak under Puel (Spuds home, Burnley home, Newcastle away & Saints away which was one of his best and most impressive games tactically). Since then our form has been checquered, even 2 wins is a big ask now. We seem to be stagnating. Some players seem to struggle with motivation or/and fitness, the squad lacks depth and balance, we play too many old boys too often... when we combine them with Puels occasional stubborness or some weird / inexplicable / controversial decisions (both squad and tactics-related), I find it hard to be optimistic or very excited about the rest of the season. I was expecting Puel to at least sort out our last season's issues, but it seems we have even more of them now.

But again, we probably should see all these football matters in lights (or should I say, in the shadow) of the tragedy that befell the club.

Whether we rate Puel or not, I think just for the sake of increasing our stability in this most trying period we should put up with him until the end of season, and then decide, stay or go. Refrain from any hasty moves, if possible, even if it means midtable, below 7-8th place mediocrity... Unless, of course, we won't reach safety by February (*knocks on wood*), then it should be adieu Napuelon
