Thousands sign campaign to see Harry Maguire as the new face of the £50 note
The former Hull City favourite is the subject of a hilarious campaign set up by a member of the public.

Over 2,000 people (and counting) have signed a campaign in support of former Hull City star Harry Maguire – for a bizarre reason.

Following the Bank of England’s announcement that the £50 note is to get a redesign, the public have been putting forward their suggestions of who should be the face of the cash.

Currently English manufacturer Matthew Boulton and the Scottish engineer James Watt, founders of the Boulton and Watt engineering and manufacturing firm, are on the note.

But a Change.org campaign has been set up to put Leicester defender Maguire – riding an inflatable unicorn no less – on the note, which would be utterly bonkers and hilarious at the same time.

Set up by Jonny Sharples, he wrote: “The Bank of England are redesigning the £50 following the successful redesign of the £5, £10, and £20 notes.

One of my best mates is a season ticket holder at Hull and used to always tell me he thought Maguire was their best centre back.

 

To be fair to Hull they've had some good players in recent times. Thinking both Maguire and Robertson were in their side that got relegated.

Leicester being the first club to have a player feature on british money would be a suitably leicester sort of achievement. :D

I remember talking to one of the maintenance blokes on the site we have our caravan, at the time we’d been linked with Maguire.

This bloke is from Hull and said straight off, ‘if you lot have a chance to sign Harry Maguire then don’t bloody hesitate...he’ll be playing for England soon absolutely no doubt’

How right he was...

At the time of writing, the petition started by Jonny Sharples has over 16,000 signatures while Mrs Thatcher’s, started by Guido Fawkes, has just over 11,000 on change.org.

 

Manufacturer Matthew Boulton and engineer James Watt are currently on the note but are due to be replaced, with more serious suggestions including Princess Diana and Emmeline Pankhurst.

'Sadly for fans, it seems an unlikely option - the Bank of England has said that apart from the Queen, living Britons cannot feature on currency.'

Bollocks to the royal family, nobody cares about them apart from pensioners.

How is Princess Diana a more serious suggestion?

 

She was just an airhead who never achieved anything of particular note.

 

If people liked her celebrity that's their prerogative but to consider her great achiever in British history worthy of being on a bank note is taking the absolute piss.
