Who are Kolo Toure, Chris Davies and Glen Driscoll? Profiles on Brendan Rodgers' Leicester City backroom team

Leicester City have a new manager at the helm with the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.

The 46-year-old has joined from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, agreeing a three-and-a-half year deal until June 2022.

He will take charge of the Foxes for the first time when they travel to Watford on Sunday (12pm), and will be joined by Chris Davies as assistant manager, Glen Driscoll as first-team fitness coach and Kolo Toure as first-team coach.

But who are the men that will be assisting the new City boss in the King Power Stadium dugout?

Toure joined Celtic as a player in the summer of 2016, and made 17 appearances in all competitions before calling time on his career in July 2017.

In the following September, Celtic appointed Toure as a technical assistant with the Bhoys.

Toure continued to work on his coaching badges, and obtained his UEFA A Licence in November last year, which lets him manage clubs at Championship level, and coach the reserve and youth teams at top-flight clubs.

Now at 37 years of age, the former Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool defender has joined Leicester as a first-team coach.

Davies isn't renowned for his playing career, but his time in coaching certainly has pedigree.

The 33-year-old worked at Leicester as a youth team coach between 2005-2007, before joining New Zealand side Hawkes Bay as a youth coach in 2007.

In July 2010, Davies would team up with Rodgers for the first time at Championship side Swansea City, working as his chief analyst.

He would stick with Rodgers as he moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2012.

Rodgers left Anfield in October 2015, and Davies would remain with the Reds under new manager Jurgen Klopp, but left the club that December.

Davies would then work as assistant to Brian McDermott at Reading for the second half of the 2015-16 season, before teaming back up with Rodgers at Celtic to work as his assistant.

He would remain there until this week, where he will now take on the responsibility as Leicester's assistant manager.

 

Glen Driscoll

Driscoll has been appointed first-team fitness coach at Leicester.

The 45-year-old has worked with Rodgers for the majority of his professional career in football.

He's worked as a physiotherapist, then later a fitness coach at Chelsea, before teaming up with Rodgers at Swansea when he took over the helm at the Liberty Stadium in 2010.

He would work with Rodgers throughout his time with the Swans, and later Liverpool, before being named Head of Performance at Celtic in 2016.

Kolo was a great defender on his day and played under some good, astute managers which should hopefully give him a good insight. Knows the English game well, too.

 

Best of luck to all 3 and hope they can put their experience to good use.

Rodgers hasn't bought a GK coach with him so Stowell will stay. Sadler used to be an analyst before becoming a first-team coach so there might be a bit of overlap, but as others have said backroom staff are unaffected so presumably he'll stay and work alongside Davies.

 

Having most of the staff staying the same will help with any transition, hopefully.

The fitness coach one will be interesting. We have a pretty well established and well respected one of those already, does this guy become his boss? Or work alongside each other? Or is he a gonner... (Matt Reeves i'm talking about by the way)

On the other hand, the student lived in Manchester during which he was playing in a Manchester City team that was somewhat famous... Clearly she was an idiot!

With the arrival of Glen Driscoll who was Head of Performance at Celtic, I imagine the sport science staff may change a little bit. Matt Reeves and Glen Driscoll look like they will be doing the same role looking from the outside in.

Looks like a very strong and experienced coaching staff who have been with the manager for a number of years.

 

I like Kolo Toure, his experience speaks for itself and he can become a mentor for our young defenders.

My cousin is not a football fan but he lives in Leicester and probably wouldn't know Jamie Vardy if he slapped him in the face with a bottle of WKD

To be fair, if she thought she was going out with a car salesman she would have to be foolish or naive to expect much truth from him
