Just shows what a terrible manager PT was....I saw MP play and he was more than alright.

He was clearly one of the best things about that awful period. I honestly don't understand how someone can be so clueless as Taylor and make a lot of money from the game. Fvcking annoys me honestly.

Very brave of Matt to speak out about these issues, hats off to him.

I also think he's a superb pundit and I always enjoy listening to his contributions on Radio Leicester.

He often provides some great insight from a tactical perspective which many pundits don't - probably thanks to his personal background in coaching.

Deserves great credit for the way he's turned things around.

I was gutted when we sold him. I remember him ripping man u full back apart, so Ferguson put two players on him and he ripped them both apart lol

I remember being told that the physios knew his knees were shot when we sold him.

such a a shame to read how he suffered, but great to see how he’s turned it around and he should be an inspiration to others in a similar situation.

I do like listening to him on the radio.

As mentioned above i know Matt personaly. It was a shock to me to find about his troubles with drink years ago.

He was always focused on becoming a footballer. We had a very talented county side and school side (rawlins in quorn). Reached the semi finals of the schools cup but lost to a team in Liverpool. Never ever in those years at school was he bothered about going out and if he did he would never touch booze. He knew what he wanted and that was football.

From our talented squad. 3 rejected at City, 2 went onto Rushden and Diamonds.1 went to Port Vale. 1 played a few games at Grimsby. Myself i was released at Derby (sorry) but they took Chris Riggott on instead of me for yts. Only lad that made it was Pipes

He used to play for Ratby & Groby as a kid on a Sunday morning.  I played in a side that always used to get drawn against his in either the semi finals or the final.

Wow, had no idea that Matt had been through all that.  Fair play to him to come back from it. Seems trivial to say it but I think he is a really good summariser on Radio Leicester. Very measured and insightful.

I think your mistaken on this. He always played for Beaumont Town as a kid before he went to City. I played for Ratby and Groby before seeing the light and moving to Beaumont

You're correct.  We lost to Ratby & Groby one season then Beaumont Town the year after!  I take it you're the same age as me...37?

Good article . As much as Rudkin gets slated on here it was nice to read he stood by his word and gave him a coaching job with the under 15’s where he could easily have just turned his back .

Excellent summariser - insightful &  often quite funny.

Even more impressive, in a way, is the fact he can put up with Ian Stringer week after week and still keep off the bottle!

Anyone that has played with Junior Lewis and been through what Matt has, deserves to live a long and healthy. Respect Matt.

I played for Moira United U12 to U15.  We had a player called Marc Goodfellow that went on to play for Stoke.  Did Beaumont have a player in midfield called juggy or jugsy or something like that?

We were in the North West Leicester league so only played the inner City teams during the county cup.  We won it one year but you knocked us out two years I can remember.  I had to mark Piper in one game!

Remember one cup game at your place when our managers and parents were scrapping with yours. We both had players sent off and think we won. Your player was sent off for bringing me down when clean through

I was at Leicester from 11 until 14 and our manager then was a mr Rudkin haha. He released me at 14 then i went and had spells at Sheff Utd, Doncaster and Villa before settling at Derby. Spent 2 years with them before being released.

I thought so!  We played against Leicester Youth team at U13's I think at the training ground and you definitely played.  Think we drew 4-4!

Didn't make the first team at Derby then?  You based in Leicester now?

That was one of the parents Mick. Can remember the ref stopping the game as they rolled round fighting. Our parents had to watch the rest of the game away from the pitch haha.

After the Derby release i bounced around the Leicester senior league. Anstey Nomads, Quorn, Barrow town etc. More clubs than Trevor Benjamin.
