Will money ruin football in the future?

Recommended Posts

Money in the form of tv rights has enabled our pl clubs to be some of the richest in the world and hense attract the best players.

Unfortunately football clubs do not use money very efficiently and so our clubs dont tend to be the best in europe... but we were this year.

I want to see the best players ticking up at the kp.

What will ruin football is when...not if... the bubble bursts.  Football clubs are not very financially resilient and are adicted to big tv money.

What would help a little would be if the countries outside Europe and South America develop their own internal football structures that appeal to their locals more so instead of them paying money into the likes of the PL they spend it in their own countries supporting their own teams..

In the future?

Football was done when you stopped being able to pay at a turnstile on the day of the match, go stand on the terraces, and when toilets were put on coaches. It died when rattles and rosettes ceased being the limit - and when all matches stopped being played on Saturday at 3pm.

You can stick your fan park, pay-to-mascot, annual kit, membership scheme, season ticket swipe card, matchday package, convenient payment scheme, widescreen TV, parking permit, dedicated satellite channel, transfer window, sweet truck, 5pm Sunday kick off, last minute fixture change, assistant referee, video replay, half and half culture, where the sun never rises.

Daggers is back!  Hope you are well!

If its sustainable then I couldnt care less if they pay £1 or £100,000,000

The issue is when clubs are put out of business because of financial greed

If the money is there and is being delivered via tv and all sorts of other streams, then it's all relative, otherwise it wouldn't be happening

It's a sign of the times

It doesnt ruin the game in terms of my enjoyment in watching the sport at all

I think VAR is a bigger threat to football than money, I can imagine every single decision being under review

Money allows us to keep our biggest players or only sell them at a price that benefits us .

Theirs plenty of things to moan about the way it’s changed the game but you can’t deny it’s given us a better chance of competing than we’ve ever had before.

It's just become a real turn off for me.

They earn how much through TV money and we are now charging extra for sending out tickets and charging circa £50 for a match day ticket? Give me a break. The club is in the best state it's ever been in but sadly it's during the worst era of all time for the game.

I will probably always go to a few games a season and we can always say we won the league 'our way' forevermore. But the buzz I get about the game just no longer exists. It all seems so hollow now. Sadly, those who attend with a like minded attitude appears to be dying a death (I am 27 years old), I don't want to go to the football and be told to sit down whilst getting funny looks because I have the audacity to make some noise and get behind the team. For me, that isn't football and is why I have started attending other sports like boxing and cricket more regularly.

I've just got home and read that Athletico Madrid have signed somebody for 113m,

That 113 million euros is full of clauses and broke down over a series of years.

Oddly that he's gone to Atlético is probably good 'for the game'.

What does the OP mean will it?

It's already fvcked it up.

Paying players £200/500,000k a week tells me it's fvcked.

Since the inception of the premier league things have changed for the worse for me. The private sector has ploughed in cash and has "rights" over everything. The fans have played their part in being so willing to get ripped off by the likes of sky and staying so passive with things like fixture changes. With all it's fanfare the prem has taken away so much of the game we love. Too late, we're all passengers now. Try and enjoy the ride.

I think the wages are more of a problem than transfer fees. Lots of transfer money is just going round in circles with one club giving it to another, then they pass it on to another. The wages have been out of control for many years and the public just can't identify with it. It may be that eventually enough lose interest in it because of this, then the broadcasters will have a problem and if the revenue disappears, clubs will also have a problem with players on huge wages and long contracts.

Man city ruined football.

A club that cannot be proud of success because they bought it and didnt earn it

I think you might be being a bit unfair on Chelsea.

The bubble won't burst for as long as people are prepared to fork out the money for the various subscription packages. As this won't happen and as we have new players such as Amazon on the scene then revenues from TV and broadcast media companies is likely to remain very high.

Whilst there is a moral obscenity about the amount of money being paid in wages, transfers and agent's fees it could be argued that the standard of football is higher than it was, the quality of fascilities for spectators better etc etc.

The main issue for me is the cascade of money down the pyramid, the exhorbitant prices to attend some matches and cost of merchandise and the alleged corruption that we have seen in the game due to money.

The problem is not the money itself but the way it is used. In some ways the vast sums in the Premier League are allowing clubs to hang on to some players where before they would just have had to have been sold. However, this is leading to new attempted methods by the big clubs to protect themselves with ideas such as the European super league.

And whilst the picture in the Premier League may be rosy outside of it iti is not, just look at Bolton for eg.
