OXUTD Posted 30 July 2019 Posted 30 July 2019 Hi all, Oxford United fan here! We have been strongly linked with a permanent move for young centre half Elliot Moore this afternoon. Any thoughts from regulars that watch the under 23’s/have kept track of him? What’s he like? Good signing for League One!? Any comments would be appreciated. Best of luck for the new season! :)
Brainy Posted 30 July 2019 Posted 30 July 2019 Better off finding an OHL Leuven forum or searching for Moore in the Leuven thread on this forum, think i'm right in saying they didn't rate him much
nwl fox Posted 30 July 2019 Posted 30 July 2019 Was captain of the u23's 3 years ago, spent the last two seasons on loan at OH Leuven in belgium where he was made captain (must say something), by all accounts had a great first season there, last season was more difficult though as they struggled towards bottom of table. Kind of hoping we were going to get him out on loan to League one this season so we could see how he did at that level rather than selling him, but he definitely needs to be playing proper football rather than u23's so good luck to him if it is a permanent deal, we seem to have an abundance of young CB's here at the moment.

Great signing for you lot today getting Woodburn in on loan from Liverpool!
Jaspa Posted 30 July 2019 Posted 30 July 2019 OHL Leuven fans seemed to like him, they were just wary as to why he'd been made captain at such a young age, with no experience in their Club, League or Country so quickly. Doesnt seem likely he'll reach Premier League level soon and we don't have space to play or bench him even in the cups so a permanent move to League One would be decent for him. He's comparable to other players who have done well at that level from our youth systems; Cian Bolger & Tom Parkes, both eking out respectable careers in footy, he could potentially be a level or two above them.
Foxxed Posted 30 July 2019 Posted 30 July 2019 Had a lot of promise. Was up their with Chilwell. Was sent to OHL. Had a fantastic first season. But then went down hill with Pearson's final season there. I feel like he could come good but his time with OHL didn't do him many favours. I think he'd be a good signing for Oxford. But as said previously, it's the OHL fans you should ask.

Good player (we would have released or sold earlier if not) and even better for the experience in Belgium. Will be a good signing for you and certainly capable of being a success in league1. Good luck for the season ahead.

Great signing for you lot today getting Woodburn in on loan from Liverpool! We desperately require a CB. If not, two. We’ve lost our two outstanding players in Curtis Nelson and Gavin Whyte to Cardiff in the last month so unless we see some reinforcements (and quickly) the season could be a struggle. The addition of Woodburn has temporarily appeased supporters however at this stage we’ve done nothing but paper over the cracks. If he does come good however we’ve got a player that we wouldn’t be able to attract otherwise - our model for a few years has been to find golden nuggets and flip them within a season or two for profit.
OXUTD Posted 30 July 2019 Author Posted 30 July 2019 Thanks for the responses. Seems reasonably positive... Goos luck for the coming season all. ?
Saxondale Posted 31 July 2019 Posted 31 July 2019 We do have a glut of young centre backs. Aside from the younger first-teamers (Soy and Benk), we have Josh Knight (who my Peterborough-supporting mate rates highly) and Sam Hughes.

Was just a signing purely for the u23’s for a few seasons. Josh knight however the club do rate. Elliot Moore they obviously don’t rate either. Josh Knight and Pascanu are the two favourite I’d imagine.

Foxxed Posted 31 July 2019 Posted 31 July 2019 I didn't realise he was Leicester born. Pity he didn't make it here and a pity he was dragged into a Belgium second division relegation dogfight rather than trying to impress in the lower leagues here. Still, hope one of our academy products makes it elsewhere. (Edit)

The Fox Covert Posted 1 August 2019 Posted 1 August 2019 I am quite impressed by Moore being a very young captain of a team in a foreign country. Generally you would expect the captain to be an older and more experienced player and probably from that country as well. I expect he has come back from Belgium a much more mature player than if he had stayed in England and gone out on loan to a couple of lower division sides in the mean time. Could be a very decent signing for Oxford if he continues to progress.

Poznan34 Posted 1 August 2019 Posted 1 August 2019 Do we know what the club's plan is for Josh Knight? Championship loan?

Honestly what we plan to do with the sheer volume of players in that bracket of 19-22 (And Callum Elder) baffles me. I feel like we should be one of the most active clubs in terms of loaning out players given how much more time we seem to give them than other clubs, yet I feel we just hoard these players and don't let them progress on loan or otherwise. It wouldn't surprise me if Knight was just here for this season, in the U23s, and that was it even though I think he needs a Champ loan.
LCFC FOX Posted 1 August 2019 Posted 1 August 2019 The club have high hopes for Knight. A lot more than any of the other youth CB’s we have.
