smileysharad Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 I think that while we going through a once in a lifetime event which is completely fascinating we need an area for those who want to discuss it and equally an area to avoid for those who are fed up to the back teeth of it!
Stadt Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 Maybe you should call it The Politics Thread 2019 or something like that oh its locked
Buce Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 A guideline to what words are considered unacceptable might help. Apparently 'xenophobic' and 'Little Englander' are deemed offensive rather than merely descriptive, even if not aimed at individuals on here.
Jon the Hat Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 What a fascinating day. Putting aside one's beliefs on Brexit, we could see a GE being called, resignations, the party whip being withdrawn, the Speaker once again breaking all parliamentary convention, and a new PM losing a key vote after only a month or so.
Jon the Hat Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 I personally think Jeremy Corbyn will find it very very hard to reject an election. He would consider it a point of principal not politics. I wonder if his advisors can sway him.
Alf Bentley Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 Mods / @Mark, please don't shut this thread down like the Politics Threat has been shut down. The OP is correct about the historic importance of the Brexit issue - and, if anything, a single-issue Brexit thread should be easier to manage. Anyone who enters the thread should be aware that they'll encounter some views they disagree with. Anyone who can't deal with opposing views - or is just bored sick of Brexit - need not enter the thread. I honestly don't understand why these Brexit/Politics threads keep getting shut down. Most of the time, most of the debate is quite civil, even though different opinions are expressed. That's surely not a problem, as different opinions are expressed in football threads and on almost every other topic. Occasionally, someone goes OTT, indulging in personal abuse, trolling or whatever......but again, that happens in football threads. Surely, the solution to that is to delete individual posts and to warn, suspend or ban anyone guilty of abuse. As the numbers active in politics threads are small and genuine abuse is rare, that's not a major burden, is it? If there is cause to shut down threads, it would also be helpful if some explanation was given. With the Politics Thread, there was some minor abuse a couple of days ago (insufficient to justify a closedown, in my view), then things have been civil since.....and suddenly it's closed down with no explanation.

Yea why would the opposition leader whos been crying about having another election for 2 years possibly want umh an election.
RoboFox Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 Anyone able to tell me whey the Politics Thread was locked this time?

Guest Markyblue Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 The thread was closed after we had a vote, the keep it open vote won but the close it vote consists of really liberal very clever people so they decided to shut it anyway.
David Guiza Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 All right now, listen up, my children of a lesser god, you will find a file marked 'Snap Election Drill' on the J drive. And if you don't know how to access the J drive, hand your pass in at reception, go and buy some silver body paint, and pretend to be a robot on the South Bank. Fly my pretties, fly!

If it's Ben Swain, we all shout Sweaty Swain as he dehydrates himself through PMQs. Holhurst looks like a shepherd dressed up to meet the Queen. Oh, man. I miss TTOI. I miss the times when our political system wasn't so ridiculous that you can't even make a satirical comedy series based around it because the reality is more farcical than the fiction.
bovril Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 Why was the 'tics thread closed down? Quite sinister.
Nick Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 1 minute ago, bovril said: Why was the 'tics thread closed down? Quite sinister. It’s not just about what has been written recently- people go back and read through pages to catch up and lots of the posts (I think) got reported by different people which in turn I guess causes moderation hassles. There’s a ‘ban’ thread somewhere with a bit more info on it as well.
David Guiza Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 Literally never heard of Phil(lip) Lee, but if his nickname isn't Delphia then his friends and colleagues are missing a trick.
Nick Posted 3 September 2019 Posted 3 September 2019 Boris in the House of Commons this afternoon and right now in response to Corbyn is embarrassing. Corbyn just looked at him and mouthed the words 'wow' in response to the level of debate he simply can't cope with.

This is pretty much do or die for Corbyn, it'll be completely selfish and very much force no deal but he's not getting any younger and if he wants the chair this is the time to pounce. Boris has a very good record come elections, but he's probably a lot more divisive than May was. The issue for Corbyn is how strong the Dems and all of those tory lite parties will be
