Puel joined us in midtable and left us in midtable and if he'd stayed any longer all the players would have ****ed off. The jobs they did aren't at all comparable and if you think they are you've clearly got an agenda against Pearson.

Puel did fantastic work on our squad and I cringe so much reading all the abuse our fans still give him, but the job he did for the club is emphatically not on Pearson's level. The man took over a League 1 side and left us all of the following: One of the best sports-science & scouting departments in the country A League 1 title A couple of playoff runs A Championship title The great escape A squad capable of winning the Premier League To not like him more than Puel is an insult.

Hates a bit strong, he was just pretty dull. I mean the future would've been bleak had we kept him, think Rodgers can come close to rivaling my love for Nige, but I do have a feeling we'll split bitterly.

Woah! I never said I liked Puel more than Pearson. Pearson did fantastic work with us but ultimately was out of his depth when tactics mattered. This great escape talk always irritates me. He was the man at the helm when we were close to relegation. 70% of this forum were calling for his head! He quite clearly built a solid squad. To hail him for the great excapenis crazy though. Huth, Vardy and Cambisso deserve that accolade as much as the next man. However, Pearson did excellent work for us, hence why King Power extended the olive branch to him for the job in Belgium (the less said about that the better). Ranieri was able to take the squad and tactically add, what Pearson couldn’t. Saying that, the Kante effect can’t be underestimated. Could Pearson have won us the league with that squad. We’ll never know. I don’t think we’d have had had such a torrid 2nd season with Pearson at the helm though. I love Claudio for what he did, however most of his signings on his watch, were nothing short of shocking. Puels football was as dull as dishwater but the players signed whilst he was here were more hit than miss. Diabete and Ghezzal have talent but they’re not built for the Premier League. We were always safe under Puel ..... it was just very uninspiring. Rodgers adds something different. He’s inherited a solid squad and you can see that once the pieces click, we’ll be some team. The defence is solid. Which is why I started this thread. We never look like we’ll be taken apart. I do fear it’ll end bitterly with him jumping ship to join a team perceived to be larger than us.

We have had tough fixtures so far this season but we’re potentially a scary prospect if it does all click. I think he looked at the fixtures and decided to prioritise not getting spanked in those tough early games. It's been frustrating (and we have arguably given points away), but we have built confidence in our defence and that is the bedrock of a successful team.
Dan Posted 28 September 2019 Posted 28 September 2019 Shakespeare gets it a bit hard on here at times. Don't get me wrong some of the toss served up under him was painful but he was badly, badly shafted as well.

I dont know how people can judge him tbh, he had like 2 month as full time coach and wasnt backed, end of the day he got us to champo quarters mans a hero

Summer 2017 was another poor one which is often forgotten due to how bad 2016 was but I don't really put that on Shakespeare. Not saying I'd have kept him but it's true he wasn't properly backed. The Drinkwater/Silva debacle makes me a bit sympathetic to him.
lcfc sheff Posted 29 September 2019 Posted 29 September 2019 Starting back four: Chilwell Soyuncu Evans Ricky sub back four: Fuchs* Benkovic Morgan Justin great strength in depth, shows in benkovic and Justin we’ve got some cover for any potential sales / injuries. * will he stay another season? Seems good enough still. I’d argue chilly is most likely to be sold based on being English/ young/ England’s starting Lb. we’ve seen with Ricky P that we’ve signed a decent back up but who will be the one to fill in chilly shoes in the future?

We'll have to buy another left back. Our academy has two promising left backs but they're two seasons away from being ready.
ARM1968 Posted 29 September 2019 Posted 29 September 2019 Our defence is the nuts. We’ll be the first team to take points off Liverpool I reckon - in the Premier League before some Cnut messes their Napoli.
