Starting to get more of a grip on returnal, struggling with how it's balanced, not in that it's balanced badly but working out the risk reward as its still absolutely kicking my behind. Had some decent runs where I feel like I can make a bit more headway and screw myself over by taking too many cursed items or the wrong cursed item that has just too much of a negative attached to it for me to overcome. I've read it gets a lot easier once you beat the first boss (which I've not even seen yet, mind!) so I'll keep at it, still enjoying it and like some of my very favourite games like binding of isaac or enter the gungeon it's got that ' I'll have just one more run' thing going for it, and 6 runs later it's well past your bedtime.

I managed to finish it. I really enjoyed the game but it is really frustrating, but its designed to be frustrating.

Once you open up the way to the first boss (and most certainly will die) you can get to the first boss really quick, basically you will start a run and within a handful of areas you will reach the room with the boss door. But you then have a choice of whether to go straight into the boss with no power ups, or go explore to bulk up before attempting the boss again.

You can beat bosses with no powerups, though it will be a real slog and one sloppy move will really damage you. So don't feel discouraged by thinking you absolutely have to grind around again and again. Once you learn the boss patterns you will find yourself easily beating bosses. I remember the 4th boss i went in with little health and managed to beat it by the skin of my teeth.

I would also get to grips with the weapons, find a weapon that doesn't involve getting up close and personal and just shoot and dodge from afar. Also do not pick up every health item you see, if you know of a health item near a teleport then leave it there and teleport back for it when you need it most.

One good tip i found, when you open a door to an area only set foot in it a bit, let the map appear and you can gauge what is in the room before you get locked in. So if its a mini boss room are you prepared? Or is there another way you can go first. The amount of times i would go in a direction and find myself locked in a room with a load of enemies and i lose the run uneccessarily. Or lose a revive item that i shouldn't have had to use.

Also in the room with the house (i presume you have found the house) there are items up high opposite the house that i always tried to get. Do not attempt to get them. You get up there as part of the story much later in the game. I wasted plenty of time trying to figure out how to get up there lol

The way you are describing the balance is exactly how the game is supposed to work, i had to do the same. Once you get a bit further into the game and really start to understand the mechanics you will get to a point where you are maxed out, have good items and feel like you can take on anything. But that doesn't mean you will sweep the game lol

I would be interested to know how you get on with it, if you get frustrated with it have a day off then come back to it. That's what i did when it got really frustrating. Nothing worse than getting really strong then getting caught out and dying without progressing the story. Wasting 2 hours

Really looking forward to it, looks to be reviewing highly as well

Did you manage to find a way to work from home so you can be in for the delivery?

Nope :(

I managed to change it though so that it is being dropped off at the co-op this afternoon around the corner from where I live so I can just pop in and get it on my way home!

Where has the best price for the deluxe? Preferably somewhere I can walk in and buy it after work

Your best bet is probably Game

Or if you know any, a small local game/tech shop

Got about an hour and a half of the Hogwarts install left (started it at 7am). Enjoyed the intro part of the game so this wait is agonising

This is a very fun video game

Hogwarts Legacy is a fine game indeed

I’ve put 18 hours into it since Thursday afternoon (mainly due to being off work sick) it’s absolutely brilliant and everything 10 year old me dreamed of

The PSVR2 with Call of the Mountain costs more than my PS5 did at launch.  lol

I am extremely tempted to go for it lol

Never had a go on any VR before

Have to let us know how it is. I've already got VR for my PC so won't snag one myself, but really curious how it is. I've read they're upgrading Tetris Effect for PSVR2 which was superb on the original PSVR.

Just finished Mafia Definitive Edition on PS+.  Decent enough story, won't take more than 10 or so hours.  A little clunky but no worse than GTA, not bad for a 21 year old title.  lol

The remake? I played that last year and enjoyed it. Mafia 3 was decent as well, though with a fair amount of glitches.

Is it genuinely a 10 hour experience? I'm looking for something lasting about that, currently. I've recently spent a lot of time in Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed Origins and feel like I need something a bit more streamlined and frankly, shorter.

I also did both through XBOX Gamepass on PC that goes through UBISOFT connect and am now very miffed realising there were no achievements???

It won't take you long, I've done it in 12 days with around 1 hour of game time each time playing a mission or two at a time.  Although it appears to be an open world game, the whole of the map is there from the outset to suggest it is,  each mission is very linear and it gives you everything you need at the mission start and tells you exactly where to go.  It's nowhere near as open as GTA.  Initially I found it quite restrictive and odd in that respect but it soon grows on you as the story itself is pretty strong.  It's more like The Getaway than GTA if that makes sense :dunno:

Massive shout out for Assassin's Creed Origins by the way. Having gone back to it, I really enjoyed it. I know plenty hate ubisoft open-world collectathons and there will be plenty to also say Origins wasn't a proper AC; but for me it hit the sweet spot, I think.

Thank you; that's ideal. Appreciate you taking the time to respond.

So now i finished Maneater i been looking for something new to play so i have downloaded a game called Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana. Always loved an RPG and im really enjoying it so far, get stuck on a desert island and you have to search the island for survivors whilst building a village. It (graphically) has a Skies of Arcadia feel to it, which is one of my all time fave RPG's. Looking forward to continuing the story. Anyone else played it?

Check out how long to beat, gives you a reasonable idea of game length and covers different types of playthrough (e.g. complete everything, blitz the story and nothing else etc). I seem to check every game I start on there now, I seem to have major commitment issues about starting a long game I won't have time to play. This hasn't prevented me from starting Persona 5 or putting 33 hours into it in 2 weeks though lol
