Are more than a handful of our players 'good enough for Champions League'? What exactly is the measuring stick for that?

You are aware, if we qualify, we will probably only play 6 games in the UCL right?

We will have 40+ league and cup games to contend.

I'd rather have Bowen as an option on the bench for those games than our current attacking options, bar Iheanacho.

Bowen would be a tragic signing for a club like us. We should be looking at the best players from teams in the top 10 of European leagues not the bottom half of the ****ing championship.

A better option to help us stay here? You have to strengthen when doing well too.

That's not Bowen though.

Why do we need a better option to stay there. We are clearly capable of doing so already.

We have been in poor form for the past few months, lucky that the teams below us haven't closed the gap but we can't rely on that lasting all season. We have one winger producing assists and goals. Perez isn't a winger, looks lost out there. He only gets goals and assists when moved central more recently, but even then I'm not convinced. Simply put the time has come to replace Gray and Albrighton.

This window there have been a few players that I thought we might have been in for transferring to other clubs:

- Dani Olmo (went to Leipzig)

- Steven Bergwijn (went to Spurs, but seems like we put a bid in)

- Suso (went to Sevilla)

- Carrasco (returning to Atletico on loan)

- Bowen (seems set to go to Palace or West Ham)

As it stands I don't think we need anyone right now and as long as we get top 4 we will have a better chance to get players in the summer you would have thought. But still, interesting to see transfers like this take place. With Wolves signing Prodence for a reported fee over 20m, I think that could put us in pole position for Hwang Hee Chan of Salzburg. Bergwijn is another one I could have seen us in for too, but of course he's gone to Spurs.

It will also be interesting to see who stays up and who doesn't. Bournemouth looked doomed so I could see Ryan Fraser and / or Callum Wilson coming here. And if West Ham go down, Felipe Anderson could be a great signing. So in short, I think waiting for the summer to spend big is a sensible decision given our current position.

It’s not patchy at all????

We’ve just been on the best top flight form ever. Just because we’ve had a poor run of form does not mean our form is patchy. Our current team will get top 4. There’s no point buying bad players for extortionate prices in this window when we can buy better in the summer.

We have signed Mahrez, Huth, Ndidi and Tielemans in the January window, massive players for us. We've needed a better wide option for years, if Barnes hadn't come back and done reasonably well we'd have been in a right mess, probably would have had Maddison out wide all season.

Notice I said 'chuck money at'?

Mahrez was half a million quid.

Huth was on loan.

Tielemans was on loan.

Ndidi was in a situation where we had a dire need for a midfielder.

We signed Musa and Gray in 2016. Signed Ghezzal and Diabate in 2018. Signed Perez in 2019. We have at least attempted to sign wide players in those 'years' you are referring to.

I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand that spending big money on key positions in January is almost always not a good idea, particularly when you aren't in panic mode.

**** all of you that think we need a winger.

WE ARE THIRD IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE WITH OUR CURRENT SQUAD AND 14 POINTS CLEAR OF 5TH.

What more do you ***** want??????

A... Winger?

I mean they're being quite clear about it...

Not sure it's going to be easier to sign players in the summer at all.

Chelsea will start to re-invest.

Man Utd seem to be getting the cheque book out regularly, and I can see Woodward being desperate to appease.

Arsenal could finally back a manager.

Man City will spend a fortune.

Mourinho will be backed at Spurs.

Ancelotti came to Everton for a reason.

Those 6 clubs + Liverpool will all have the upper hand when it comes to being in for similar targets.

6 games of Champions League football really won't leave much of a positive impression for targets.

Remember when we won the league? We were in a better position than now, and we didn't sign much.

Didn't realise Sheff Utd had signed Sander Berge.

Just £22 million too.

Can't believe we weren't all over that.

Rodgers has spoke many times about how he likes to overload his squad with different types of midfielders.....He'd have been perfect.

Could've loaned Choudhury out, so he can actually play.

I’m thinking recall Ghezzal from the Florentina loan.

He’s perhaps not going to be the winger we are looking for but he’s an option for 5th choice Centre Back if we need him.

We don't panic in the market and we wont overpay.

As a rule this approach has seen us well in the last couple of years.

The deadline signings we all thought were going to be great- silva, slimami, etc.... these players are still blocking the wage bill.

If we get a centre half in then great but there isnt players available that would improve the squad or go into the first team.

Jarrod Bowen isnt any better than what we have. Carrasco wants 200k a week. Important for the club to leave as much room on the wage bill as possible, ship out the likes of Slimani, silva, diabetes, ghezzal and then we can spend big in the summer.

Worth pointing out Brendan's wages took out a fair chunk of the maguire money too.

Makes sense , would rather spend big in the summer than panic today !

Has there been any efforts to permanently shift Adrian or Islam? or is that just a case of, we cocked up purchasing them and now just have to wait until the contracts run down?
