Financial Fair Play: Manchester City lose appeal to Cas over Uefa investigation

Manchester City have failed in an initial bid to have the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) halt Uefa's investigation into a possible breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

City have been referred to Uefa's financial watchdog, the Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) and if found guilty could face a Champions League ban.

Cas said City's appeal was "inadmissible" at this stage because the CFCB has not yet determined what, if any, punishment would be applied if they were found guilty.

The club, who deny wrongdoing, had argued that Uefa did not have the authority to bring an FFP case against them.

I don't understand what's going on.

Yesterday the Athletic comes out with an article saying they've been fined and will escape a CL ban.

Today this comes out saying their appeal has failed and they might still be banned.

So are they getting banned or not???

I have it on good authority we're getting Mahrez back in the deal...

Riyad will be so pleased. Has had nothing but good things to say about us since he left. I'm pretty sure he never wanted to leave in the first place.

Basically Man City are trying to black the investigation, they say they have done nothing wrong, like in 2014 when they were fined £50m, strange how they never do anything wrong?

BBC article suggest Liverpool also under investigation.

Points deduction please.

Happy days!

Money rules, especially money backed by an oil rich country.

You're getting banned in the morning, banned in the morning. (repeat)

If only money didn't mean this will never happen.

Chelski as well please Santa.

Liverpool should be deducted 35 points as well!

I’ve read so much about FFP in the past few seasons and it still seems a minefield to understand. If any of these clubs do breach the rules then bans and points deductions really are the only option. If you fine a team a few million it really isn’t going to be a deterrent so therefore can’t be classed as a punishment, they need to take a look at the huge points deduction Saracens have been given in rugby as a great example, that will cost them a Any chance of a European place, they will lose players and could even get relegated as a result - hows that for a deterrent?!

Ultimately a system devised to keep the top clubs at the top and punish the **** out of anyone else who dares stray from the line.

Look who they're owned by.

Look how much money they have.

They've basically said they haven't done anything wrong but won't let UEFA look at their accounts etc. So what's to hide?

Even if they do find something wrong, It'll be a slap on the wrist and a fine that bears absolutely no significant hit to their finances.

If it was a smaller club in Europe like Slavia Prague or Genk they'd get slaughtered for it.

Not about us?

I know. Man City fans are deluded though and seem to think everybody is out again them.
