Ricardo Pereira: Interview

Hello Foxes!

Aaron here, a writer from Próxima Jornada, a website specialising in Portuguese football and footballers. I recently conducted an interview with Ricardo Pereira at Leicester’s training complex.

In the interview he speaks about Leicester, hopes for the season and what it’s like to work under Brendan Rodgers. Just thought I’d drop it in here in case it was of interest!

Good luck for the rest of the season!

He’ll be up there in all seriousness! What a fantastic player he has been for you. Ricardo spoke very well about Leicester, clearly thinks something special is on the horizon and I agree. Just wanted his love for the club to come across in the interview!

Do you get the impression he wants to stick around or is looking to move? It’s no secret anymore that he’s one of the best RBs in Europe and could honestly play for anyone. I personally think he will stay next season if we get Champions League football but would be surprised if he stays after that.

I hope he stays for a long time of course! Does he know how much the fans love him?

Thanks....Ricardo is absolute world class. This man needs a raise and a contract extension now. He's a serial winner and has a good taste of trophies.

Ricardo will not stand still for us. Its Champions League or bust.

He seems 100% focused on Leicester City and only Leicester. Clearly thinks that there is something on the horizon for the club and sees this year as an opportunity to do something big. Enjoys playing under Rodgers and spoke about the positive vibe at the club right now etc.

Yes he does! I told him how many requests I get about Pereira content on the website and how he’s became a fan favourite! My twitter is @ProximaJornada1 if you’re interested in anything else I do on the subject of Portuguese football.

He can see the rewards for his fine form too with the recent international call-up, he’ll be aiming for a superb rest of the season for Euro 2020 selection also.

This makes me happy!

Thanks for sharing, enjoyed the article.

In case you were bothered about fixing it, Vitoria & Ricardo won the cup in 12/13, not 11/12.

For anyone else interested, Riccy's goal can be seen seen this video at 6:10 - a classic Ricardo run followed by utterly dreadful goalkeeping. Incidentally the Benfica keeper was at fault for the equaliser too.

Well spotted also, they reached the final twice in 3 years so must have gotten mixed up!

thanks for the kind words,

Great work chap.

Please continue to post links to your work here for anything Leicester related.

Seriously good read and nice to read something where the journalist hasnt done his best to get the player to say he cant wait to move on from us to a hugger club. (Or just put a contentious headline for click bait.)

Thanks mate.

Great piece thank you Aaron and a warm welcome to FT. Refreshing to see a straight piece that isn't trying to sell or unsettle one of our players with wild rumours. Really encouraging to hear that Riccy is loving his time here and seems totally committed to the cause. Bodes well for the long term future of our club. we are lucky to have this type of character, and i get the feeling that many of the current squad share his enthusiasm for the project that is underway at the KP

Be ready, because the big boys are going to swoop in hard for him next summer. Of all our players he’s the guy who’s custom built to feature at a mega club like Bayern or Barca or Man City. Not saying he’ll go but there’s going to be a fight.

No chance going to Man city to play second fiddle to his main international rival. That is one position that Man city do not need to strengthen, but i certainly would be worried about an approach from Barca/ Real Madrid. No matter how loyal a player is, when they come calling you listen.

Barca have Semedo, so it's almost exactly the same scenario as Man City as far as competing with an international rival goes. Bayern have Kimmich and Pavard so really have no need to strengthen that position. I'd be more worried about Juve or PSG in all honesty.

Truthfully, that's thinking like a Leicester fan.  For a club like that, whether they need a player isn't really the question.  They'd try and steal Ricardo because he's great, and because they can.  He can easily play the left, or as a right winger.  He adds versatility and depth and an abundance of pure quality.  For MC or Barca or Bayern, that's plenty reason enough.
