Not sure how it works in England but in Scotland, if you phone a doctor and ask say you think you have a throat infection, they send you to get tested immediately. 

 

Happened to both my daughters even though we knew for sure it was an infection.

They won't. They'll be claiming he's paid off by big pharma and decrying "the cult of Whitty and Valence" because they were a week or so out when it actually has hit 50k (which it almost certainly has by now) - and that them missing the prediction by a few days has nothing to do with extra restrictions we've brought in in areas of high transmission because some Irish guy with 6 viewers on YouTube said it didn't.

 

Then claiming something about false positives something something.

The NHS Covid app completey drained my dad's iPhone 7 within a few hours the other day. He said he was barely on his phone throughout the day. He deleted the app and the phone is fine now. Wonder what's the point in having an app if your phone is constantly dead.

I deleted the app, I had to have it for a trip to Butlins to check in to areas, but it was constantly telling me my postcode was in a medium risk. Didn't once change to tell me about the area I was actually in.

It only ever tells you the risk of your postcode.

I doubt it. I reckon that it's because this virus is highly contagious - and because a lot of people find it hard or impossible to avoid contact with younger generations.

 

Examples:

- Lots of uni students or workers in their 20s live with parents in their 50s/60s

- Lots of schoolkids have parents in their 50s or with vulnerabilities (I'm 58, have a vulnerability & live with my 16-year-old daughter who goes to college.....which of us should move out and where to?)

- Many elderly people live with middle-aged children with families, so people in their household go out to work or school or shopping/socialising

- A lot of elderly/vulnerable people who live alone would struggle to cope physically or mentally without visits from younger people, sometimes relations/friends, sometimes paid carers

- Some people who work and pay mortgages/rent have vulnerabilities (e.g. my 30-year-old nephew has twice had pneumonia; my fit 50-year-old mate, a teaching assistant, has diabetes)

 

You also do not say how long such isolation of older/vulnerable people would last. Most assessments reckon that still only a small proportion of the population has had Covid.....so such isolation could potentially last years.

Can you imagine isolating yourself and putting your life on hold for years? It would be intolerable, wouldn't it? Well, guess what.....it would be intolerable for older people, too. Most could tolerate it short-term with support, but not long-term.

The path we are on at the moment then!

Yeah Bluetooth and a running app all day is a killer for battery life, most wont even bother.

Because it’s dodgy ground on Data Protection Act I believe.

I have an iPhone 8 and I haven’t noticed any issue as yet.

35200 which is just for England, whereas Vallance referred to the whole of the UK. Crudely, multiplying that by 1.2 the UK's pupolation is ~1.2x England's) gives ~42000. Which is likely an underestimation given that the ONS doesn't include institutional settings such as hospitals, care homes, and student accommodation. 

 

We have a suite of info now for around the 15th just in England:

ONS 35200 13th October

REACT 45000 5th October

Cambridge MRC 47000 12th October 

 

By the middle of next week we'll have hospitalisations to back-of-a-fag packet extrapolate from and then another couple of weeks to do the same for deaths. But either way the Vallance mocking doesn't look too wise.

We're due to go to a fairly remote/sparsely populated part of Wales in 14 days. We live in a tier 1 area. Wales aren't allowing anyone in in any tier regardless of whichever postcode you live in. So we're fooked. Lost all our money as the property owner will not refund if we are unable to travel due to Covid even though it's not us, it's the Welsh ban on travel that's preventing us from going. :mad:

Making PPE more expensive will inevitably lead to more cases, more deaths, more lockdowns, more debt.
