Marcus Rashford

Even though Marcus plays for another club I feel credit should be given and recognised when someone has gone the extra mile.

I know the guy plays for United and as a player so far he hasn't 100% convinced me, especially for England.

But what an absolute credit to the game this guy is off the pitch. He seems to dedicate a lot of his spare time to helping others.

I can't help but think there are quite a lot of people up and down the country who could do with learning a thing or 2 from Marcus. He has done this with true dignity and class without turning it into a political mudslinging match, absolute class - first rate, :appl::appl:

Not least government ministers and other MPs who have slung mud at professional footballers any chance they've been given during this crisis. Hope those same MPs now listen to what he has to say so his campaign can affect real change.

Absolutely. I think he is the kind of person we need more of in this world. Its all too easy for people to get all political and start throwing political mug around, to be honest it needs to stop.

None of us a re perfect but we all generally are good people who want the best for people around us and will make decisions based on how we think that is best achieved. That does include some MPs and Government ministers too.

I think the time has come for proper eloquent discussion about issues and Marcus has absolutely nailed it in the way he has presented.

Nothing but praise for the actions he has taken, and the way he has presented himself and his campaign. Very much a credit to himself.

I know Lineker's mentions are toxic at the best of times, but he tweeted about the great work Rashford is doing and this is the sort of response it generates. Utterly depressing in its predictability and undoubtedly not an unpopular opinion.

As a wider point, perhaps if PMs like Attlee and Lloyd George received a percentage of the plaudits that the historical figures who represent bulldog Britain receive then as a society we would be more understanding and appreciative of the welfare state and beyond, as opposed to thinking that the world and his wife are out to get us.

i think he came from a pretty shit background as well and is using his platform really well. Just to think if United didn't have that injury crisis he might not be the player he is and could be slogging it out on loan.

Lineker gets bashing from the right just because he says what they don't want to hear. So many famous people probably agree but don't say anything about it.

Great to see more good work from Rashford, not forgetting where he's come from. Many a footballer give back but they're always the first to get criticized. Nobody mentions other really paid people like film stars or even MPs themselves!

Fantastic work he’s done and he really does speak from the heart about his past experiences.

Genuine question here though because the ‘benefits system’ is completely alien to me... why is race brought up so much in the statement? Is the benefits system more favourable to white families?

Again, that is by no means an attempt at being a WUM.

This is how a Tory MP fancies replying to his efforts.

This is why there can be so much disdain and dismay at how Tory MPs can be perceived. Her total lack of care and compassion, not least for the bigger picture or what he's actually trying to do.

That is the thing he doesn't, which is what makes him quite remarkable in my view. He tried to stay away from the usual rhetoric spouted by the twitter gang of tories = bad, labour = good. It very simplistic and quite frankly nonsense.

The way he has portrayed himself as a young man is incredible, he speaks well, calmly and concisely, he certainty debunks the myth about footballers being 'thick'. I know people with Masters degrees that are less coherent and eloquent than him. he has also written a fantastic article in the Times. He has now become my favorite none Leicester footballer.

Just because one Tory behaves like a complete arse doesn't mean they all will. All parties are completely capable of having arses.

Not true apparently. Just heard on the news as I read this that Rashford has said it hasn’t been rejected and it’s going to be discussed in the commons.

I've read the Tories will be whipping their MPs to vote against it. Hopefully that doesn't happen and they do see sense. Rashford himself has no explicit partisan point to make so why not just do the decent thing?

To be honest I just don't get why they don't just do it, even if just for this summer. Stick it on the pandemic bill, this is a drop in the ocean and would probably win quite a lot of good will too especially given the awareness Marcus has raised.

Absolutely fantastic. A great effort from Marcus, to be honest the guy deserves a clap at every ground when fans return. This is the kind of thing that makes a difference in 2020 Britain, clear, eloquent, fair, and calm. It proves if you present something with enough thought you can get something done.  A great example of a role model, a footballer using his platform to deliver real positive change. :appl:

Credit also to the government for making the correct decision in this case too.  It proves to the government, listen to the people.
