Premier League's top 7 teams will not be in next season's League Cup

That’s rubbish. It’s an opportunity for young players to get minutes and an opportunity for smaller clubs to claim a scalp or two.

It makes sense for next season but I can see it being a permanent change because of bellends like Klopp constantly moaning about fixture congestion

It's always the managers with the greatest resources who moan. I heard Pep moaning about how some of his players may not be fit after the Covid "break". Feel like saying mate your squad is massive I'm sure you can cope.

Shame about this, only positive is it gives football league clubs the chance to progress further. I don't understand anybody happy with the potential of picking up one less trophy.

If that’s the decision, it shouldn’t have a European qualifying spot. Ourselves, Wolves and Sheff Utd all gatecrashing the top seven would love a European spot available to them without the ‘big’ cartel competing for it

Totally agree

Don't agree once the genie is out of the bottle, its not going back in, this will be the death of the league cup.

For all the ones happy with this, out of the 4 major trophies we have won have been in this competition.

Let not get to billy big b******ks.

Most of the team who aren't entering would have blooded youth players anyway, totally waste opportunity to develop youth players in competitive games.

Thats one way to stop Man City winning it again lol

It's one way of guaranteeing they will win it. They're banned from Europe so they'll be the only big team in the league cup

I was thinking to myself the other day, they ought to exclude all the premier league teams and make it a British Cup. Have qualifying rounds and make the last 16 or last 8 England versus Scotland. Just as a one off to make it something different.

Thing is you're then creating further fixture congestion plus travel headaches for League One/Two clubs, who already play more games in their league season than a fair few PL clubs do in all comps. I imagine the paint pot trophy will be scapped next season?

Only if you go a long way in the comp. There's be 20 less teams in it from the PL. There might be 1 or 2 extra rounds but if you're in with a chance of winning it you wouldn't mind.

They're just trying to kill it off completely, piece by piece, to satisfy the likes of Klopp and Guardiola.

First they'll take out the top seven, then any side in any of Europe's three competitions and then use attendances of 2,500 for Barnsley vs Norwich City Under-23s to justify making it a FL only tournament, with no European qualification, before burying the competition as a whole.

Problem is high chance Celtic and Rangers are in the European competitions as well this season, so can't play the competition. Biggest fixture you'd get based on this seasons teams would be Leeds/Forest v Aberdeen or one of the Edinburgh clubs.

It's hardly the most attractive fixture.

On the contrary.

I think I'd quite enjoy even the early rounds of an all British cup; watching Northampton v Linfield or St Mirren take on Barnsley or Airbus (whoever the **** they are by always seem to be on the videprinter) v Portsmouth

Given most of the clubs at this level will be even more penniless than usual, the prospect of long distance trips on a week night just for the sake of it won't be an attractive option for them - unless there's a bucket load of cash on offer to do so of course.

Can't they just replace there team with a under 23's side instead?

That's ****ing bollocks. Bigger teams should play the youth players if their first teamers can't handle it.

Like Klopp did and he got abused to hell for it, even though they kept winning 🤷🏼‍♂️

No Klopp got abused because he moaned about a fixture pile up (after choosing to play a full squad in the CWC) before refusing to attend the fixture, disrespecting Shrewsbury in the process.

Teams have been playing kids for years and they've never been abused for it, except maybe by their own fans as it was a potential trophy they could have won.
