Iverson to Leuven (CONFIRMED)

Can see a few more youngsters going to Leuven on loan this season now they’re in the top division. Looks like it will be a good move for all parties, remember Simpson talking favourably of his loan abroad when in the Man U academy and the learning experience.

 

Hopefully Iverson can continue to progress and start challenging for the number 1 jersey in a couple of years, seems a very decent prospect by all accounts. :scarf:

Thing is what Iversen is experiencing here in England is what Simpson experienced wherever he went lol From a cultural point of view anyway. Doubt he'll benefit that much from a move to a 3rd different country

That is true, I did think that but meant it more as a general point if some of the other youngsters went ie. Dewsbury-Hall, Shade or Thomas... or Hirst :P. But tbh think I’d rather they got good championship loans instead.

Top teams in Leuvens league are much better than the teams in the Championship (Anderlecht, Gent, Genk etc.), some of the bottom teams in Leuvens league are probably bottom Championship/League 1 level

Perhaps he wouldn’t have been a guaranteed starter. No point sending him to sit on the bench for a year as reserve keeper to a Championship side.

On the plus side as someone else mentioned there are some good sides in Belgium he'd be up against, possibly lower PL/higher Championship standard, and playing for OHL I dare say he'd always be in the game.

Interesting move, this one. Playing for a newly promoted side, he'll be tested often enough against some pretty good sides. Some big performances could convince Rodgers to make him our number 1 in 2021-22.

Would have preferred him to go on loan to a championship team if he was to be first choice.

I think this is a good move. Guaranteed first choice, another step up again in terms of standard, and realistically he's still a few years away from being our number one (if he gets there) with Schmeichel here. Absolutely no rush to get him into the premier league, and the importance of an early championship season is far less than for an outfield player. Probably will be in a relegation battle which will build up his resilience and it also helps out the other King Power club.

I suspect easier for us to recall, if we were to say Transfer out one of the current three existing keeper options?

Jakupovic has been given a year's contract extension, so we'll probably keep all 3 for now and look at the situation again after next season.
