I seem to recall his first half dozen touches in one of the play off final all went out of play :D

Think he went on to run a pub in Broughton Astley but i could be making that up..

I shat myself when I saw this.

I thought I was in transfer talk.

We can but dream, there was something about him that as a supporter you bloody loved, although could only imagine in this day the threads you’d see about him on here.

Definitely something about him and that goal I was going mad lol. Had a few beers as normal. Also very frustrating player. Boy we are lucky with the players we have now.

Have you got the video of Duncan Ferguson being sent of with Galloway seeing him off the pitch. Loved that can’t seem to find it anywhere 🤙

Was only talking about that at the weekend! I can visualise it now, the look on the faces of Ferguson and Galloway was priceless. Had been having a bit of verbal at each other from the moment the whistle went. I bet they kissed and made up afterwards over a pint ... perhaps not then 🤣🤣

One of my favourite players ever.  Remember him taking out Cottee who was playing for Everton at the time, a league cup game of something, right in front of the Members Stand and then stamping on him as he got up, unseen by the officials.  Cottee's scream was hilarious!  Exactly the kind of player we needed to beat Derby's fancy Dream Team at Wembley - the story of him telling Tommy Johnson to f**k off in the Wembley tunnel epitomised the guy.

Apparently he works for Nissan up in Sunderland

Scored a couple of very decent goals away to Barnsley too.

Remember that game clearly, they had just recently knocked us out of F.a.cup, even after a wonder strike from Joachim.

I said to my mates we never beat these bastards , and expected the same, thankfully 2 goals from coats ensured a 3-2 win, I’m sure 1 of his 2 goals was cross come shot lol

Watch from 47:47 to see a Coatsworth brace.

Oh and 3 x consecutive 3-2 wins.

Who's our keeper in these games? Is it Muggleton?

Yes.

He makes some cracking saves during the season.

Wasn't keen on the 7-1 defeat final day. I think I remember watching it live on TV

Muggleton's last appearance for us was in the April of that season against Oxford when he went off injured. Richard Smith went in goal.

Poole was back goal for the Newcastle match.

Coatsworth's 2nd goal at Barnsley was really classy finishing.

Not just in the brilliant shot, but the way he gives the defender "the eyes", not once, but twice ... implying he's going to cross the ball, but then smashng the ball past the goalkeeper.

Superb goal!

Coatsworth - among the last of an era of players who were proper (balding) men with strong regional accents and who went back to the factory after retiring. Unlike these entitled nancy boys of the modern game with their trendy haircuts.

Talking of slap heads, you don’t see many in the game these days. That side had TWO! Coatsworth, Agnew... Speedie - that’s THREE. If all 3 started that’s 27% bald.

I think we need more bald players with (preferably northern) regional accents.

Hard as nails as well . I’m sure I remember him getting full on booted in the face and him just shake it head to clear it and carry on .

That was about the time players attitudes to injury changed.

I remember reading from a player in the 60/70s saying you never showed you were injured as that was seen as a sign of weakness so even if it hurt like **** you just got up and carried on as if it was no problem.

The complete reverse today more's the pity. Shame on today's players
