Just a few players who were hyped as youngsters and followed through and had/are having brilliant careers at the top level.

It's always easier to say that a kid isn't going to make it at the top because most of them don't. Also the average career length of a professional footballer is only 8 years according to the PFA.

Conversely, putting too much pressure on some of them can contribute to them never making it.

But I can't understand why people aren't excited to see young players coming through and are on a downer about it, regardless of what club they play for and nationality they are. When Rooney scored that goal against Arsenal for Everton, I played that video back over and over again.

This guy could be Erling Braut Håland or he could be Tomi Petrescu. Either way, it'd be exciting to find out, especially if he ended up on our books.

He was brilliant on a version of Football Manager I seem to recall

Some had decent careers but could have done better.

Some had great potential but flopped.

Some lost careers due to injuries or passed away.

Some we’re overhyped by the football manager hype train.

Some were flat track bullies in poor leagues, that couldn’t cut it at the top.

Surely it's harsh to include Duncan Edwards in that. Bloody hell man.

I pulled the list from elsewhere! You’re not wrong though.

Some others like Letini and Harrison as well. More circumstances outside of control and just unfortunate fate.

I honestly think our training ground is what will peak these little fellas interest much more than before, and give us more of a chance of snapping them up.

I really want us to become a conveyor belt of blistering young players, football tends to bore me these days and I get more enjoyment from seeing players break through without fear.

The training ground is definitely a huge step forward in this respect. It will take a few years to see talent develop but it's really, really exciting.

There was that young lad in the 90’s called sonny pike. Joined Ajax youth academy I think, and was dubbed the next “pele”

out of interest which players died? I know about lars ricken but that was post retirement.

I think you're confusing Lars Ricken with Fernando Ricksen here mate - the latter passed away last year

" football tends to bore me these days"

That explains a lot!!

Lets never sign a wonderkid because some never made it elsewhere!!!!

I'd rather sign relatively inexpensive 16/17 year olds than pick up 21 year old cast offs like Ryan Loft or spend a few million on punts like Diabate.

I can't see him being inexpensive.
