If we sign a left back then Castagne was an unnecessary purchase this summer. You don't need Ricardo, Justin and Castagne to play right back.

When is Ricardo out until, maybe his recovery is going to take longer than expected and without Castagne we'd have to play our star winger Marc Albrigton there if anything happened to Justin. It's an added bonus that Justin and Castagne are versatile

He's been back training but think he's still 6-8 weeks away.

Unless we really are looking at wing backs and Fuchs and JJ are going to cover LCB and RCB with Castagne/Ricardo on the Right and Thomas and this fella on the left.....

games  coming thick and fast this season... can’t rush Ricardo or get him playing too many games too early...  if the price is right i wouldn’t be surprised... Could also mean Thomas going out on loan..

oh no cunning ploy he is playing right back after playing left back last season. Does it mean we have asked if he can play RB or we bid for the wrong player. Also of course now being cup tied reduces his value by about £200

I would really like to see us sign him - a young hungry player who is improving. Fits the bill and has a left peg too!

The club have stated he's not for sale this season, That's why he's playing today and Watkins & Benrahma aren't, but then money talks.

oh god he’s playing RB today

The thing Brendan looks for in a left back is being able to play right back.

Sign him up.

Has a team ever had had more depth at Rb?

Ricardo, Justin, castagne, albrighton, armartay... even Hamza has played there.

It was a little alarming to view social media and watch fans having a meltdown about our pre-season preparations. Yes, it hasn't been helpful for a number of players being unavailable due to quarantine misdemeanours, we're obviously still struggling with a couple of key players out with injury still. Yet... We are not alone in the league in our poor match-readiness. Aside from about one or two teams that have not had to bring in many players, and are mainly trying to get match fit, the vast majority of the teams going into the season are simply not ready. It means (as you pointed out) 6-7 weeks of poor performances, disjointed team selections, lack of match fitness, and teams with influxes of new players transitioning and getting to know each other.

If we are aiming to play a particular tactical shape and formation this season, and haven't acquired the players to do so quite yet (or are unavailable due to injury), then fans and supporters need to temper their expectations for the first couple of months as it's going to be disjointed, players are not fully fit, and we'll have to adapt until we have the players available and ready to play our desired and primary tactical formation.

Is it possible to purchase some patience or lower expectation in the transfer window for our fanbase?

Patience and lower expectation when we've already blown our load on doom mongering and crippling depression?

If we want to compete top end then a vastly stronger squad is needed. That means decent players who cost a fair but ending up on the bench sometimes.

Yes but not 3 right backs. Not when we are so painfully thin out wide. Castagne will play left back and Ricardo right back, Justin and Fuchs/Thomas as back up and that is more than enough for bloody full backs.

Doesn’t look likely then

Yes true but maybe Castagne was brought in for when Ricardo goes to Arsenal !

I think we have had a few periods in the past where we had about 5. Someone with more brain cells will come along in a minute...

Didn't Mad Dog Allen field a team made up mostly of RBs once?

Anybody who ever complains should be brought back to the time and reminded of the first team scrubbing the toilets in aid of unity to take them back down to reality under the appointment of mad dog...
