There is 100% an element of begging and sense of entitlement that by knocking on someone’s door with your hands open and getting treats breeds.

As for poisoning kids minds- it’s little wonder there’s a mental health crisis in the country when you subject 3/4 year olds to this type of shite

This seems like a bit of a stretch, fair enough you dont like Halloween for whatever reason but not sure daft costumes once a year is doing much to a childs mental health in the long run

Put it this way; there are far greater influences on the mental health of children right now both present and future that are going much more ignored.

I'm not mad on Halloween and I agree about the begging for sweets and some sense of entitlement. I'm glad I'm in a flat now and don't have to deal with it.

But I find your suggestion that Halloween is a contributory factor to the mental health issues of children to be bizarre. I would be interested to read anything legit even suggesting a link.

There are lots of reasons why many young kids (and adults) are struggling that are fairly well accepted such as issues relating to social media, phone usage, bullying, body image, lack of time outdoors, lack of exercise, poor diet etc. Many of them are intertwined. I don't think you will find exposure to ghost stories as one of them.

Of course kids get scared by things for a period but that's just growing up. I don't know anyone who has ever had a genuine issue because of these types of thing. Honestly, it sounds like the kind of thing the Daily Mail would throw out as a headline...

It’s a bit more than that though isn’t it.

I’m not talking about a bloke stood there with a bedsheet over his head. Why would you want a 3/4 year old be subjected to the idea of death ffs? It’s a frightening enough prospect for some adults as it is.

My little nephew was on about ‘Halloween pumpkins’ the other day. He’s only 2.5. We’ve no idea where he’s got this idea from either as my brother and SIL don’t even own a TV, never mind allow the kids access to iPads etc etc.

The idea of an adult allowing a kid to become corrupted and to celebrate death ffs sickens me. Fortunately, because my bro and SIL are bible bashers, they feel the same too

In the main though, kids are only knocking on the doors of those who are obviously participating in Halloween — I can't remember the last time I had a knock on at anywhere I've lived. It's not as if they're knocking on doors indiscriminately expecting sweets.

Blaming a mental health crisis on 4 year olds getting a couple of celebrations out a tin for dressing up and having a harmless laugh is sensational.

Rather like school proms, which seems quite a recent thing.

2004 Longslade prom at Bishops Blaize was legendary. No ID checks and pre-minimum alcohol pricing made for a hell of a night.

Never forgiven my mum and dad for putting fake cobwebs and spiders in our front door window and letting us carve pumpkins as kids.

A truly sick, gratuitous celebration of death.

I think this kind of faux outage over everything so people feel so much pressure to never make a mistake is what’s causing our mental health crisis much more than trying to tell parents they’re poisoning their child’s mind by letting them put on green face point and stick a pointy hat on their head once a year.

I thought the rule now a days was if you house didn't have any 'halloween' outside, you wasn't a part of it and no one knocked etc.

If we are cancelling Halloween, can we also ban hand dryers as my son is traumatised by them. (true story)

As a celebration rooted in the original Celtic culture of this island, we should be promoting Halloween as much as possible. Enough with these foreign Romano and Saxon imports like 'Easter'.
