Leicester International XI

Recommended Posts

Sorry if it's been done before, but could Leicestershire - population not that different to N Ireland or Iceland or Latvia - field a respectable international team? Or even field one at all?

So far as I know;

Barnes, Choudhury, Luke Thomas, Liam Moore, Che Adams, Lee Tomlyn ( does he still play?), Joe Mattock, Oliver Burke

Anyone else who plays at a respectable professional level?

Harvey Barnes is from Burnley.

Chris Kirkland for goalkeeper?

Barnes was born in Burnley cos that's where his dad was playing at he time, but the family was originally from Leicestershire and moved back here when he was a young kid, so i think that counts. lots of people were born in a different city (oe even countries) due to family work commitments would still consider themselves as being "from" where the family originated and they grew up during their formative years.

Of course, we'd have multiple players who qualify through parentage and grandparents. Barnes would. And through 'residency', lol

But I think I'm pushing it for someone on here to know the entire family tree of every pro footballer

Agreed. I got quoted a couple of times for thinking you wanted people actually born in Leicestershire :)

Understand panini and finnegans quotes to me but though you was basing it on birthplace.

GK: Oliver Bosworth (Leicester City U18/Leicester)

RB: Wes Harding (Rotherham United/Oadby?)

CB: Josh Knight (Wycombe Wanderers/Market Harborough)

CB: Liam Moore (Reading/Barrow-upon-Soar)

LB: Luke Thomas (Leicester City/Syston)

MF: Hamza Choudhury (Leicester City/Loughborough)

MF: Lee Tomlin (Cardiff City/Leicester)

MF: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Luton Town/Shepshed)

RW: Oliver Burke (Sheffield United/Melton Mowbray)

LW: Harvey Barnes (Leicester City/Countesthorpe)

CF: Che Adams (Southampton/Leicester)

Bench:

GK: Jordan Wright (Nottingham Forest U23/Leicester)

CB: Darnell Johnson (Wigan Athletic/Leicester)

LB: Joe Mattock (Rotherham United/Leicester)

MF: Tom Bayliss (Preston North End/Leicester)

RW: George Thomas (Queens Park Rangers/Leicester)

LW: Terell Pennant (Leicester City U23/Leicester)

CF: Jonson Clarke-Harris (Peterborough United/Leicester)

Can't find or think of any others, Burke and Barnes weren't born in the county but I believe the rest were. Not a bad side, most of that starting XI is Championship or better, we'd beat a fair few UEFA nations I reckon.

Northern Ireland aren’t really talented but have enough decent enough players with a well drilled set up to be in Euro qualifying contention. Interestingly enough their manager is from Leicester an all . Ian Burchnall (Ostersunds manager) as assistant, Kirkland as GK coach.

Good line up. And that excludes those who'd qualify through parentage, which both Irelands heavily rely on

Another one to the coaching staff: Tony loughlan. Assistant to Sean dyche at Burnley

I know he’s techincially retired from the pro game and played for Northern Ireland youth, but Billy Kee could surely take the back up CF role.

There's Luke Varney too - mentioned somewhere and probably retired now - not sure. But a decent striker - (remember him at Mowmacre). We've produced some good goalscorers over the years actually - Lineker,  Heskey,  Dublin - now Che Adams, who I think has the potential to be something special. Really wish we'd signed him from Brum when we had the chance.

Lee Tomlin's another one I'd like us to have signed. A very clever player who I think is easily Prem quality, but maybe a bit lacking in application.

Varney is player/coach at Burton apparently (according to Wikipedia.)
