Understand some are scarred, but at the end of the day it's a player we supposedly received a 5m bid for in January that we'd be losing for free next summer. He's not the finished article but maybe that's the point, good business as long as it's not a high wage.

I think two years added to his current contract would be fair- with the idea of selling him in the summer. I really like him though, his grandad was a great person for this city and comes from a proper Leicester family. But I can’t get onside with these mega deals for average players.

Maybe he didn't want less?  And maybe he's cheap.

Fact is he's one of a number of players that would be out of contract next summer.  So rather than need to replace 2 mids in Winks and Soumare, 2 fullbacks in Ricardo and Thomas, 2 forwards in Daka and Ayew, we have one less thing to think about next summer.  We could be in trouble if we just let them all run down their contracts and Thomas is probably one of the easier and cheapest to sort.

We're going to have a big headache next year just keeping a squad together, so this is a simple fix for a small potential problem.

I’m not sure I agree with you despite these all being sensible suggestions.

1. He didn’t want less - I’m certain Thomas who failed on loan to Sheff United and has struggled here (until recently) can dictate terms anywhere.

2. One less headache for next year - very similar thinking to third choice keeper, Iverson. It’s hoarding players and that’s causing us major issues when such players are mediocre on a good day.

3. he’s cheap - might be the case. However, you’re only as cheap as you contribute. There was no need to jump into such a long deal at this stage. Thomas needs to prove his form and value long term. He could very much fall off a cliff as he has done.

I think it’s too long a deal at this stage. Had we got to November, December and the form was at a level required/expected, the deal would be the same. It’s four years which means we need him to appeal to every manager in the next four years and compete at whatever level we are at - that can change a lot - I’m not sure he can.

How has he improved, other than the he has got back into the side because others are worse.

Is he a better player than he was in 20/21?

He's being out performed as a fullback by a CM playing at RB.

I could understand a 2 year extension, but 4!

Genuinely doesn't do anything well - It's miserable watching him play.

Maybe the club has had offers for him in the past and they are protecting their sell-on potential - There's no other explanation for it!

2 career league assists and one was on his debut. He doesn’t have any clear strengths does he

People talking about being able to sell him on lol We've wanted rid for how many years now and nobody has come in from him aside from two loans moves to Middlesbrough and Sheffield United. And even they weren't bothered after.

You give a long contract either to ward off suitors or maximise the selling price. We seem to just chuck it out randomly then are left with the player regardless (and we go through managers fairly swiftly who all have differing opinions on Thomas).

Don't get the logic of this club.

This is vestergaard and Choudry revisited.

He was really solid if not slightly more at the start of his career during Covid & up to the cup final, but has TOTALLY STALLED.

The Blades & Boro binned him off after 12 games each, he’s so negative down the left almost always playing back.

I really hope this is for the sale in a season or two, he is very limited now.

And if we improve, he’s sat on the bench taking I hope LESS than £25k per week.

What was wrong with 2 years, let alone 3, but 4 wow.

I don't think we'd get that much but we got that for Kasey.  Got a decent fee for JJ with only a year left.
