it would be nice if press, especially the local guy stopped trying to be Brendan's friend and treated him the same way they did Pearson, they gave him such a grilling Rodgers is barely quizzed

As soon as they do this they get left off the invite list for the next one.

So they all just tow the line and ask easy questions and back the club no matter what. Basically they're just an extended PR department.

The irony is that when sports reporters do get banned by clubs elsewhere, the fans tend to back them, their reputation gets enhanced, and sales of their papers often increase as they get more freedom to write what they really want to say. It should be regarded as a badge of honour from a journalist's point of view. If a club bans you for asking tough questions, you're doing your job properly.

It would have been funny if after his answer about climbing mountains and valleys, one of the reporters followed up with, “Brendan, word is you once climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro— is that true? I swear you’ve never mentioned it.”

Max Kilman has been better this season than Maguire by a long way. He's not put a foot wrong this season so far, and needs to be thought about for the England setup. He's miles better than Tryone Mings for a start.

Mings gets in because he's left footed, if your man is then he could be in with a shout.

He's played on the left and right side of a back three.

Left footed is a nonsense reason. Never been an issue with two right footed CBs in the past.

I don't think there are many other reasons why, Southgate has mentioned it previously. I'm on your side here man, Mings is shite!

When we leave this whore league, our legacy will be not our league win, nor our FA Cup win, it will be how much we screwed Man Utd out of for Harry Maguire. lol

Think you'd need more than a gym membership to compete with the Russian lot, they do training camps for it and initiations where they just take beatings

Also national service. So army trained to.

Epic thread:

Including Tark as he's apparently ours in the summer lol

46 is extremely debatable.

Here’s hoping someone at Man Utd reads this thread. You can have Soyuncu and Vestergaard for the same price as we gave you Maguire! £80 million and you’ll have two great options at the back.

"I’m not a Rodgers apologist"

Having spent the entire article writing about how brilliant he is, nothing that has gone wrong is his fault and the fans are the problem.

one day a journalist will wonder why a long serving physio with a great record at keeping players fit would suddenly leave and then that club have loads of injuries?

Won't be any of this lot though, they are too busy sucking Rodgers off

There does seem to be an odd cult in the media where the man just cannot be criticised. You'd think we'd put a Brian Clough equivalent under pressure the way they are going on, not a man who has won 10 of his last 30 league games.

to an extent you can forgive the national people but the locals like Percy, Tanner and RL should be asking him about that rather then just using injures as an excuse

Which managers are criticised to be fair? Bad news equals restricted access, it’s all balls.

Solskjaer, Benitez, Santo to name three this season.

I'm not demanding journalists rip Rodgers apart limb from limb but just have a vague understanding of why we are disappointed with the current performance.

Quite agree, just figured after Fergie banned journos he didn’t like, that journos, mainstream anyway, were more wary

He was being rightfully panned after Sunday to be fair, but he misdirected by trashing the players (which also was true in part I guess)

Let's be honest, injuries have played a huge part in our demise. As we saw last season, even a team as strong as Liverpool fell away horribly when hit with defensive injuries, which to be honest weren't as extensive as what we've experienced this season (for virtually all of this season we have been missing 3 or 4 of our first choice back 4). Liverpool were 8th or 9th until a strong late run over the last 10 games saved their season to some extent. 8th or 9th for them is like lower mid table for us which is where we are now.  Our only hope is that we can get key players back from injury and have a strong finish, like they did last year.  It's important to remember that around 20% of our PL fixtures so far have been against Man City and Liverpool. As in the great escape season, our run in looks favourable on paper so you never know......
