Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I’ve never been so meh about a major tournament. And I’ve been to a couple in years gone by. Just struggling to get up for it, and not sure why really.

Anyone else like this?

Know where you’re coming from. I went to most England home games for 40 plus years (and a few away) until 2015, but then lost the faith when the players kept dropping out of games, like it wasn’t that important anymore.

The current England team seem to reflect their manager, who is boringly defensive, slow (although to be fair we did on occasion attack with pace today), lacking personality and not somebody you would follow over the trenches.

Obviously, the manager and players must care, but for me they don’t collectively show it. Historically I’ve always been optimistic prior to tournaments, but given our current style of play, can’t see us doing well unless GS stops messing about and plays our best 11 and let’s them play as they do for their league teams. Apart from Grealish today and maybe Rashford and Sancho, I wouldn’t want any of the other eight starters in a Leicester team.

Hopefully GS will do the business, but I ain’t holding my breath.

I'm looking forward to some of the match ups but at the same time I'm kinda bored of watching the same European teams play each other. I say that even after not watching more than 1-2 internationals since the world cup.

From an England supporting point of view, not having a single Leicester player in the England squad doesn't help. Had Maddison, Barnes or Justin got in, then I'd be pretty pumped in case they play. I think we all kinda know exactly how the tournament will pan out for England which also doesnt help, despite the good squad.

I know it’s not a new topic but I see Southgate has had to come out and emphasise the players and his stance on taking the knee. It seems some knuckleheads are still associating it with the BLM Marxist movement. How thick can you be? How many times do they have to say it is nothing to do with that, and it is solely a stance against racism. Anyone who boos is a racist and should be identified.

Or, it's totally pointless virtue signalling from a completley out of touch with reality group of human beings.

I dont think anyone in their right mind believes racism should exist in any form.

But to say it isn't political is just wrong, it's 100% political and has no place in football.

There are always going to be people who attack others because of a perceived difference.

how does what they are doing aim to stop this?

The format is hopeless, you don’t need a 24 team euros. Half the confederation has qualified for the finals. Football has homogenised significantly over the last 20 years or so but having a 32 team World Cup can still work because there is at least a bit of diversity there.

A 16 team euros is done and dusted in 3 weeks and ensures at least 1 top quality group match in each group. As it is there are whole days in the group stage where I don’t think I will watch any of the 3 games.

Please please please replace Trent with White or even better plead with Tomori to come back off holiday and straight in alongside Stones on Sunday. Mings is a horror show.

Agreed. Mings is a squad player absolute best at this level. But at least he looks composed when he has a clanger!

Will be interesting to see if Southgate makes the same mistake countless England managers make in major tournaments - and play supposed prize assets even if they are half fit. I say ‘supposed’ because I’m amazed Henderson is deemed a prize asset. He’s a half wit whose half fit!

In other words, Maguire isn't going to be fit

If Maguire isnt going to available should we call up another player alongside White. If he isnt fit then hes injured. Bring in Ward-Prowse.

Southgate will want maguire and Henderson there for leadership in the changing room

That's okay they can still be there in the dressing room for support. Just dont have Maguire in the 26 man squad. Actually pick someone whose fit and available.

I always thought we were coming away from this under Southgate. Picking players for major tournaments who werent fit.

This. Didn't Capello take Beckham to travel with the squad anyway despite missing out.

In what world does opposing racism make anyone "completely out of touch"? The argument you seem to be making is that because racism exists, we should all just accept that?

Nah, fvck racists. It's not political to say racism shouldn't exist - it just makes you a human being.

Every week we see black players abused on social media for the colour of their skin. They and their teammates taking 10 seconds out of their week to remind us all how grave this situation is is fvck all compared to the reality of the situation they face on often a daily basis.

If kneeling down for a few seconds each game keeps the conversation going then so be it. If people are so opposed to that they feel the need to boo, then they're proving the point as to why it needs to continue.

Do you take the knee every morning at 08:59 (or when ever you start work) with all your colleagues to "oppose racism" ?

if no, then what good is football players doing it? its just a virtue signal and bandwagon jumping, as all the big corporations and media do all the time

Also it isnt to "oppose racism" its a salute to a marxist organisation that wants to defund police and all manner of horrible things.

and if players are abused on social media and they are still taking a knee, it also shows it isnt working in the way intended by im sure 99% of the players.

No one in their right mind will say racism should exist, but taking a knee is seen as a political stance and it is.

no one boo's kick out racism, or what ever other initiative they have taken up, but people have a very genuine right to boo a political stance that they do not agree with.

to put it so its understood, no one is booing anti racism and if they are then they can do one.

Don't agree with the call myself, just suggesting what Southgate could be doing. Don't think we'll ever fully get away from the picking big names based off of that. He's been lucky that most of the Southgates big decisions have been answered themselves through injury.

If you aren't fit to play, shouldn't be in the squad.

I used to enjoy watching England because they had better players than the ones I was watching at LCFC and played better football but now the football is so turgid and many of the players so average that the only reason to watch them is because I'm English and they're England.

I've become very fickle towards them only watch the last England game because it was on whilst I was having my tea and I knew I wouldn't get indigestion well not from watching England play.

Full credit to DCL for keeping cool and diplomatic. I've never rated him much as a player but to be the bigger man in all of this - that I can respect.

saw an interview with him on the BBC a year or so ago, came accross as a very leveled headed young man, the game needs more players like him.
