My  son lived in a lovely new block just of Broad St Brum ,tramps sleeping in the doorway and regular car break ins sometimes just to sleep in the car ,and that was the good area.

Aren't Nottingham and Birmingham just par for the course, really? Some lovely spots, some not so lovely. Leicester is fine but certainly not the utopia some people seem to think.

Leicester is by no means a utopia. In fact in my experience most of the midlands is pretty bad (in terms of cities) and almost left behind. We have an economy so heavily based on the south and to some extent the north west that other areas historically have been neglected. That being said in terms of cities in the midlands I would say Leicester is one of the nicer ones. I wouldn’t categorise Nottingham or Birmingham in the same way although they do of course have some positives.

Leicester also has the advantage of its proximity to London and with ever increasing technology it’s becoming more and more crucial as journey times decrease and investment is pouring in in a way pretty unparalleled in the region. I think in the next 20 years or so Leicester will change unrecognisably (potentially Birmingham too with HS2) and cities like nottingham and derby will still be left behind.

Having not been to the stadium for over a year I was surprised to see the amount of development going on around the Freeman's Common area near the junction with Welford Road, Dry Dock etc. Big office blocks, I assume, and a new multi-storey car park with a weird frontage. Certainly big investment in the area.

Sure I once read that Queen Victoria, when she went through Newcastle on the way to Balmoral, used to insist that the train blinds were lowered so that she didn’t have to look at it.

Spared the sight of wobbly bare chests and overstretched mini dresses tottering on stilletos?

All the development around the old Dry Dock is Leicester university, mainly student accommodation. Sure the new car park will be available on match days, they need the money.

Wowzers, I work in construction and I’m in out of all the major Midlands cities on regular basis. I’ve never experienced anything like this.

Personally I think in and around Nottingham, it had better transport links, restaurants etc.

How Leicester is developing, it will will surpass it. The council just need to be realistic and sort the awful toad network out. We should have had trams, trains including the Ivanhoe link working years ago.

Derby is stale.

Birmingham …… don’t get me started

Construction is a good laugh mainly, incredibly filthy banter. What do you do?

Bit of a sweeping statement regarding Nottinghamshire. Considering you never lived there. North Notts is actually quite pleasant.

Only speaking from my experience and I did a lot of HA surveying for an atvhitrcts in Leicester which was a 12 month contract job. I quit after 6 month!

North Notts some maybe, not many

Came to see if we had any news, as it's finally page 100, but no - in true FoxesTalk style we're not talking about the actual subject like during transfer windows, instead all these ****ing amphibian puns are spawning up.

It is the only thing Nottingham has on us imo, a very nice area around the water.

Oh and an arena.

I would say having a venue capable of hosting test cricket is one thing they definitely have over us, unfortunately.

After 7 years here, I wouldn’t say that’s the good area!

Birmingham is the worst city in the Midlands by a mile. Filthy. Horrible people in excess of other places. Largely ugly. Expensive. Villa.

Absolute rat hole.

And they’ve got the most annoying accent.

Another good reason not to go there!

What made you hop it? Just became des-pond-ent with the job or just didn't want to kermit to another 6 months?

I hopped it because a fair few had human excrement in the bedrooms, in the walls and even in the kitchen! We were supposed to survey the structural side/insulation/cold water & hot water feeds and so on. A few that we did do had the children removed from their parents at the time.

In essence the area was as dirty as Bungle, Zippy and George's balls
