Players Exiting

Right now we've signed a LB (Ryan Bertrand), CM (Soumare) and Striker (Daka).

 

They say money talks, and by my reckoning we need to create some funds to get everything we need in this window I.e a CB and a RW player. 

 

I haven't heard of any monies coming in from player sales aside from players leaving due to contract expiration. Players I think could be sold are Choudhury (maybe Newcastle), Praet (maybe Italy), Mendy (France), Benkovic (who cares). Plus whatever other players FT users think may be sold. We have a squad size bulging at +30 albeit some of those are loanees back I.e. KDH etc who I'm sure will take one squad place up.

 

BR usually likes a lean squad at around 22 players. Any thoughts?

BR likes a lean squad, but the lesson learned from last year is that to fight on all fronts we need a large enough squad with quality in depth to rotate. We just about managed a miracle with the achievements last season, and we'll need to repeat the same again this one but the focus on Europe and ultimately a UCL position.

I was Trying to hit the edit button! But I can't find one? Soumare is CM but at some point and with his past experiences then I could see him adding that attacking part to his game.

22 outfield players, yes. And 3 goalkeepers. He's on record as saying that and that's also been his senior squad size in both full seasons with us.

 

GK (3): Schmeichel, Ward, Jakupovic

FB (5): Ricardo, Castagne, Justin, Bertrand, Thomas

CB (4): Evans, Soyuncu, Fofana, Kabak/new CB/Amartey

MF (6): Ndidi, Mendy, Soumare, Tielemans, Dewsbury-Hall, Maddison

AM (5): Barnes, new RW, Albrighton, Sowah, Perez

FW (3): Vardy, Daka, Iheanacho

 

That makes 26. At least 24 of those can be registered for Europe, and possibly 25 if Sowah counts for the B List. If Justin is out as long as Ricardo was, he probably misses out for the group stage.

 

I personally don't see a player in there that will leave - Perez maybe if there are offers.

 

Even still, leaving would be Praet, Ghezzal, Benkovic, Choudhury at a minimum, plus potentially Amartey.

No doubting he's a skilful player on his day, but there are a few of us, like BR, who don't totally "get" him.

That said, if he has a blinder of a season here, I'll be quite pleased to be proven wrong.

I like this squad. Thomas is young enough and home-grown enough to be in the B list, so I think this works.

 

Save for any important players leaving, I think we're bloody close to having a killer squad. Would be great if we could get there this summer, although it's already very strong. I can't wait for the season to start.

Agree with this. I'd add that I wouldn't sell praet yet until we've solved not only the right wing but also the right mid. Soumare has now come in at right CM and hopefully KDH can be that backup while he's adjusting to the prem this year. Soumare has been described as a CM with good attacking and better defending. KDH is a similar player like Soumare but is an all rounder and likes to control midfield and then press/attack it when he can. KDH is also great at tracking back at pace. So we have 2 players in the same position with different styles, quite handy I'd say! I feel praet despite his pace disadvantage to the other 2 would be a good player to have to make 100% sure this year that midfield is solid.

One of Mendy or Hamza(10m), Ghezzal (5m), Benko (sale or loan), Perez if Everton come in for him (15m).

 

Could get 25-30m from the players above.

Praet and Ward only to go if they want to leave for first team football and a decent offer comes in for them ie 15-20m each

I want Praet to stay another 6-12 months with us. If Tielemans gets injured, he is still the best player in our squad to come in IMO. 

 

Loving how our squad is shaping up!
