Slightly disappointed with our gold tally we got 27 golds at rio and finished 2nd overall.

 

The Aussies have doubled their rio total, i did read they have a great set up getting talent from schools maybe looks like its paying off, not sure that would work here given how little sport is played in schools these days.

Modern Pentathlon is not the greatest of sport, certainly not necessarily the best wins. It's basically a lottery when it comes to the horse riding. You can be the best in the four other events but finish last if the horse doesn't fancy it.

 

I think they need to revisit the rules of that event. Not like the athlete has any control over their outcome as random horses are allocated. Surely they could bring their own horse.

I think we were projected to win 13 golds at these games so have actually exceeded what we had planned for. 

 

Rio again was a bit of a misrepresentation of where we are at due to so many Russian competitors being banned from competing so obviously the medals were shared out a lot more. 2012 was our own games so were always set up to perform well

 

So tough to gage these games as a marker for the future because of what's happened in the world for the last 18 months or so. 

 

Paris in 3 years will be where we can finally see where we are I think

100% but a silver is a good result. Epic run by italians and what a finish by my canadian  team. Degrasse turned it on, if only we had better sprinters lol.

What odds on Italy winning both the individual 100m and and relay title?!

 

Our guys will probably see it as a missed opportunity.

 

Outstanding from Laura Muir - ran a really sensible race and looked in controlled all the time.

 

We must have won or got medals the Modern Pentathlon  each time !

100 fail from GBR on that anchor run. Had it but just wasnt meant to be. Remarkable from the italians but the US and Jamaica havent shown up as much as nornal and will likely be back in 3 years. Italy has a lot of promise though moving forward for the next few years

What a merciless event that is. The German and Russian ladies who were given a terrible horse, completely losing out through no fault of their own.

Yes that was unfortunate.

 

Almost might have been better to give them another go on a different horse?

 

I presume that horse won't be used again tomorrow!

Australia’s total is a bit misleading tbf. They have a couple of properly world class swimmers that managed to make up 9 of their golds. Swimming is a sport where you can properly rack up the medals, just look at phelps. I know they all count the same but take out a few of their swimmers and they would be having a very similar games as they normally do.

 

As for team GB. They are still more than punching above their weight which is really as much as can be asked for.

Imagine dedicating years of hard graft to end up in a lottery where fate decides your medal hopes. No surprise a few of them were reduced to tears.

We missed our in Rio, but have got a medal every other Olympics. I think we got 2 one time, so that makes up for Rio.

One iffy dive apart he was very good.

 

Naturally the Chinese were even better.

Chinese silver medalist, Yang Jian I think, didn't look happy at the end. Like really pissed off. Must have thought that ultra hard dive would be enough to take gold but its a collective score, not on one dive, the other guy was better overall.

I try to enjoy the olympics

 

The problem is knowing my gut feeling this is one of the dirtiest and drug filled games ever. 

 

remember this Olympics testing is down by 50 percent due to covid, its a free for all in my view.

 

Look at the world records smashed on the track, nothing to see here of course.
